Israel won because there were two right-leaning candidates. One was a black woman, and apparently that didn't go over too well with a number of people in the district, so the conservative vote was split.
To: rmlew
Israel won the 2nd District because the Republican party ran a candidate whose views were indistinguishable from his and conservatives ran a third party candidate. Joan Johnson, an African-American moderately liberal Republican.

I spent my entire childhood in New York-4 (South Shore of Nassau County). When I was a kid, it was more Republican, but since 1996 has consistently reelected Carolyn McCarthy (ugh!).
Gotta love the fact that Bush only got about 35% of Nassau. I remember when Reagan carried Nassau, as did Bush in 1988.

Amazin' Mets bump from the fortunate son of a season ticket holder in the '80s.

That pin photo looks like John Cusak. What was that election movie he was in where he ran for a House seat? He was caught taking kickbacks. I think it was a fictional (yeah right) Massachussetts seat.

I'll send her my FJB button to remind her or maybe I should send it to the little town in New York and remind them of who they backed for favors..........

And, a bump from the even more fortunate son who was there (brought to the game by family when I was six years old), at the Polo Grounds, the day Marvelous Marv went yard on Mr. Face, to split the doubleheader with the Buccos.

I really think that, if there's a viable game plan, Rudy will go after Chuckie Schumer in '04 and win.
That would make Mr. Giuliani the junior senator to Hitlary, which he obviously won't like so what will the game plan be? I honestly DON'T see Lazio being able to knock-off the entrenched hildabeast. Pataki's term would be up then and he'd have a better chance, IMHO.

"Oh no he's pro-choice, so he might offend a few here..."Well, yes -- that may be true. But what about that "campaign" he ran against Hillary -- my beagle could have put up more of a fight in their "debates."
Let's face it -- Rick Lazio is clearly yet one more RINO who'd not only rather have the polls dictate his positions, but quite frankly is a spineless political-puppet pure and simple.

Tuco can't post, he promised! When did he promise? He made a couple of anti-Lazio posts yesterday on a thread about the Illinois race between O'Malley and Ryan, Torie is my witness! Puzzled some of the Illinois types considerably.

Love your graphic.
When I read Lazio will face freshman U.S. Rep. STEVE ISRAEL (D-Huntington) in what is expected to be one of the most expensive House races in the country my thoughts ran to the last election where I could have wall papered my entire house with the donation requests he sent m(e and racebannon can echo these sentiments). Don't live in his district but would be willing to help out anyway I can. We need to keep control of the house.

You're right, Lazio is a RINO, but I'd rather have a RINO elected than a democrat. As RWR often stated, "they (RINOS) are with me 80 percent of the time, instead of zero."

I've got potential "wallpaper" here also (sent before and after the NY Senate 2000 election). I'm also willing to help anyway
I can with Rick's upcoming campaign.

Lazio's a bought and paid for RINO. IMO, they could run a cleaner Mickey Mouse GOP candidate in his district and he or she would still win.
To: Dan from Michigan
This is a democrat leaning area that Tom Downey held for years so Lazio is the best we can get. You are mistaken. That seat was for Lazio's for life. Check his skewed reelection percentages. The GOP ran a black woman nobody last time and failed to either resolve voter confusion or create a strong identity for her. It was as pathetic as Lazio's Senate campaign...because the same morons were running it.
No, despite incumbency, Rick will beat Israel handily. Our polls have been confirming this since December.

My was Sinatra speaking truth when he sang we're in the City that never sleeps, LOL.

Lazio=RINO Oh, let's all vote for Israel then, right? Is that what you mean? If not, then zip it. Enough with this crap.
