Did anyone catch the two-fold interview on the TODAY Show with Katie Couric?
What a joke! And where was Andrea Yates' representation? No family members from her side! I smell a division brewing in that family.
Just like on Friday during the separate news conferences, hasn't anyone noticed this? Your thoughts and comments.

If Andrea was a pyromaniac and Rusty left her at home, with matches and gasoline, he would be just as involved, as if he left a seriously psychotic woman alone with 5 little kids. Roy Black, Wm Kennedy Smith's lawyer, said on CNN yesterday, that Rusty graduated summa cum laude from Auburn( he claimed last week, that he didn't even know what the word psychosis meant, until recently) and his claims of ignorance are not credible. He warned him about suing, as his role and behavior would be investigated. If Rusty had been sobbing his eyes out, wailing for his dead children, blaming himself for not realizing how much peril his kids were in- we would understand. He's gone Hollywood on the coffins of his dead kids.

If I saw my daughter looking that way, I don't care if I was grieving over a spouse ---I'd certainly have done something more than what she did ---apparently nothing. Someone should have gotten Andrea away from those kids. They could have sent her to a state institution or somethingI agree with what you're feeling, Fitz, but the reality is RUSSELL YATES was the one and only person who had the power to make life and death decisions over Andrea and the children--nobody else could. Andrea's mother and brother couldn't institutionalize her unless Russell had her declared incompetent/insane and went along with an order to institutionalize.
Other family members had no power other than to help out with the children, nag Andrea's husband to get her institutionalized, and try to protect the children from their mother (God forbid.....).
The one thing I would have done (& I'm not sure if they tried this) is that I would have gone to Child Protective Services and made a strong case for child endangerment--have the kids taken away from BOTH mother and father. I'll bet some family members are kicking themselves now for not trying that.

Great post. It is common sense. The Andrea who killed her kids was just an empty shell of the person Andrea really is/was. I can't even begin to imagine having been in her place, then or now. I believe she loved her children.

Read Suzie Spencer's book " BREAKING POINT ".
DITTOS! DITTOS! DITTOS! I know people that she talked to and used in the book. It's a fair look at what happened.
It appears that the DA caught on and hopefully they will file charges against the husband.

Did you notice how hostile Matt Lauer was to the jurors?Matty always seems hostile to me, except when he's talking to one of his idols.
To: texasbluebell
Can someone please give me a synopsis of anything the jurors might have said? I'm curious and I missed all that.

From your post all mothers love thier children.
To: oremus
They took a secret ballot and 10-2 Guilty when they first went into the room. Only 3 hours total.

Thank you! I was going to ask the same question. It's bone crunching the lack of remorse regarding those kids. Andrea this, Russell that, not a word about the poor little struggling kids asking mommy, "What did I do wrong mommy? I'm sorry!" What a sick society we are devolving into.
Nobody will ever convince me that Adrea didn't know what she was doing was wrong. Nobody will ever convince me that Russell actually gave a damn about the kids. Nobody will ever convince me that any of that family gave a ---- about them.
Now the media is concerned about Andrea? GAG ME!!!
To: DoughtyOne
This is soo true. Some people are not suppose to be parents.
To: Baseballguy
Ah...I thought it would be something like that. Thanks. Not to change the topic, but the rantings of people like that remind me chillingly of certain Muslim extremists... Why did Russell choose this odd religious sect? Was it to help him control Andrea and keep her in her place? He is a man with obvious psychological problems of his own - who stated that he does not believe in mental illness.
And certain Muslim extremists love those kind of weak minded people. Baseball guy, I don't think you were changing the subject but drawing a parallel - maybe something to do with brain washing, yes?
To: Baseballguy
I never said she wasn't guilty. Obviously she killed her kids. If you read all of my previous replies you will understand what I have been trying to say.
Susan Smith didn't love her kids. Andrea is a sick woman who killed her kids to "save" them, wrong as that may have been and as hard is that for the mentally sane to understand, she did it out of her distorted and desperate concern for them - not like Susan who selfishly wanted to save her relationship with her lousy boyfriend.

Sorry, I see now you were trying to tell me what the jurors said. Did they give any additional interviews yet?

I stumbled into a network news program last night or the night before and only heard a little, but what they said hit the nail on the head for me. Four jurors said that they thought she was insane but that's not what made her do it; she knew what she was doing.
To: sciencediet
I placed the bold as a quote from whom I was responding to. It is a hard thing to regard those that follow different beliefs than ones self. One can pray that more come to differ extreme beliefs in Muslim and Christians. Since they are different, Christians believe that all are sinners and the only way to heaven is knowing that Jesus is the savior. This is the view Pres. Bush believes.
To: Baseballguy
Actually, the Catholic Church teaches that the only way we can get to heaven, including everyone, is THROUGH Jesus Christ - through his merits. Not that one has to "know" him (which is not a very just view - and God IS just).

Yes. One wonders why he left the butcher block and knives out after they had hid them from her.

I think CPS wasn't called on by her family, because they really did not think she was a threat to the children, just herself. That's why they got aggravated at Rusty for leaving her alone or leaving knives out etc., because they thought she was going to try to take her own life again.
