I started boycotting them about 12 years ago when I discovered that the state president here in Tennessee received a $350,000 salary and perks worth another $100,000 FOR A "CHARITABLE" OROGANIZATION.

Don't fall for the "You can designate where your money goes" line either. When you do that, they don't contribute any extra to that org, they simply contribute that much LESS out of the general fund.

Bacically, they are a con game where they charge 15% to take your money and give it to another charity.

My opinion of the United Way has always been in the toilet, right along with my opinion of the Red Cross. Gosh I've got a really crappy attitude tonight!

I give, but not to the United Way. Haven't for a long time. And the Red Cross is now off my list.

I prefer the smaller charities. I especially like "Life Outreach" They currently are drilling wells in Africa which supply a whole village with clean drinking water. War and droughts have taken their toll on the people there and many are dying from cholera and other water-borne diseases. One well supplies a village of 300 for life. We are so blessed in this country, we don't give clean water a second thought.

The Arkansas Rifle and Pistol Assn has the United Way and the Easter Seals listed as giving to gun control groups. I don't know if that is the local or national group.

I haven't given any money to this bunch of thugs in several years in spite of the yearly "corporate extortion" that occurs at work. I tell my Boss that my charitable giving is PRIVATE and is done at home. I also tell him that United Way supports several agendas that are ANTIAMERICAN AND ANTICHRISTIAN. This is a great way to advance in your career by the way.. : )

I work at the UW in my community and the Boy Scouts receive the greatest amount of money of all of our 40 agencies.

This is true in other conservative communities as well. If we run off half-cocked and boycott the UW's that *are* supporting the Boy Scouts, who does that hurt? It hurts the Scouts in those communities.

Decisions should be made on a community-by-community basis after due research. To do otherwise makes us part of the problem and hurts more Scouts than we help.

As far as contributions, we can always indicate a designation. My spouse and I have designated for the Scouts every year since this flap came up. We're sending a louder message that way than any boycott would.

Click here for nationwide information on how to locate and support your local Boy Scout Council. Also, see if your local United Way has stopped funding the Scouts.

I also tell him that United Way supports several agendas that are ANTIAMERICAN AND ANTICHRISTIAN.

You are generalizing where no generalization is supportable. UWs are *local* organizations. Those in some communities support religious-based charities and have a conservative agenda. Our local UW works with several Christian-sponsored charities who count on that funding. A little fact-finding may be in order before we take up a war cry against the wrong foe.

I despise the way the United Way does it's annual corporate "shakedown" campaign. I'll support organizations that I believe in and the UW is not one of them. Canceled my donations years ago as a result of their warped views.

These local org's should divest themselves of UW, and most importantly, change their names.

I would never even consider giving anything to any group named "United Way".
