Andrew Sullivan: THE PURGE CONTINUES (homosexuals in the military)
AndrewSullivan.com ^ | March 14, 2002 | Andrew Sullivan

THE PURGE CONTINUES: The reactionaries want to hound gays out of the priesthood. Perhaps their model should be the army. Gay soldiers are being harassed and thrown out at record rates. At the camp where one gay soldier was recently held down and beaten to death by his comrades with a baseball bat, harassment, far from declining, has soared and discharges have gone through the roof. It’s essentially a camp where gay-bashing is a sport. Here’s the money-quote:

Kanellis and Col. Tom Begines, chief of Army media relations, attributed the large number of gay discharges at Fort Campbell, home of the 101st Airborne Division, to a policy decision made after Winchell's murder to expedite the processing of gay discharges for the safety of gay service members. "The increase should be viewed as preventative rather than punitive," Begines said. "All of that, I think, is to the Army's credit."

Get that? In order to prevent another murder by its own soldiers, the army brass don’t discipline or train the potential culprits, they throw out the potential victims. And they want credit for their actions! I was once hopeful that some kind of modus vivendi could be achieved on this issue, as in almost every other civilized military in the world, from Britain to Israel. No longer. I always knew that the U.S. military was designed to threaten people with violence. I never realized the rationale applied to its own soldiers as well.

Sullivan's anti-military comments really outraged me this time. I have two brothers in the Army right now and they are brave and decent guys. The Army teaches them to do their jobs with excellence and they in no way encourage beating up fellow soldiers. I really resent a homosexual activist like Andrew Sullivan who has never spent a day of his whole life in military service yet has the gall to criticize our courageous men and women in uniform. I find his comments despicable.

Can someone explain to me who Andrew Sullivan is and why we should give a tinker's damn what he has to say about anything? And while we're at it, do the same thing for Juntin Raimundo or whatever the hell his mane is...

I do not condone beating up homosexuals. I do however agree with not having them in the military. If some guys beat up homosexuals or anybody then they should be punished.

Individuals with flat feet are excluded from the military.
As are those with heart murmurs, sight and hearing deficits (among others).

I was in the USMC and I liked the idea that my fellow Marines would have gotten my ass out of a tight squeeze if needed, and not thinking my ass as a tight squeeze.

Radio Free Republic Presents

The Banana Republican Hour

With your host Luis Gonzalez

This week’s guest:

Brothers to the Rescue founder, José Basulto

On February 24, 1996, three light aircraft left Miami on a routine flight. Their missions, to search the waters off the Florida Coast for rafters trying to reach the US shores, and bring them help by guiding the US Coast Guard to their location. That day in February, only one plane would return to its home base in Miami.

Tune in to Radio FreeRepublic this Thursday, March 14, at 9 PM EST, and listen to the actual sounds of a terrorist in action, murdering unarmed American citizens.

Sr. José Basulto, founder of Brothers to the Rescue and pilot of the surviving Cessna, will shed light on the events of that day, and detail how the Clinton administration withheld advanced knowledge of the attack from the humanitarian volunteer group, helping seal the fate of these four courageous flyers.

Why would a gay man want to join the military where he could be held down and beaten to death? Oh, yeah, it's full of men.

Whatever it takes. Include the schools too.

I undertand that Sullivan admits to being actively involved in unprotected buggery, even though he has HIV (or AIDS). He loves the stuff. Nuf said. (Don't need HIS ilk formulating Army HR policy.)

Sullivan is generally a good writer and thinker. Unfortunately, he allows his homosexuality to color his every perception of the world. He sees everything thru the eyes of a homosexual. Consequently, he believes that any action taken against a homosexual person's wishes is harrassment. His concern is not for the good of humanity, or in this case, the good of the military, but instead an irrational belief that homosexuality is benign and that homosexuals are as normal as everybody else.
It's too bad he can't get over this prejudice. He would be a great writer if he did.

Those few words speak more truth than all the articles the pro-homo wing of the liberal establishment have written combined. Sorry about the redundancy (pro-homo/liberal) comment. My redundancy-repetitive phrase-checker doesn't seem to be working.

Regards!

I thought the military policy was "don't ask, don't tell". Evidently, the gays are telling, and probably much more. What part of the policy don't these guys who are voluntarily in the service understand? Where does this misfit Sullivan get off blaming the Army for "purging" and "harrassing" homosexuals? He's a liar and a spinner, and is shooting his once-promising writing career in the foot, to boot. Then, when he's out in the streets with a tin cup, he'll blame everybody else but himself.
