Punch Lines-Taped Results Revealed of FOX's Celebrity Boxing Card (Outcomes Fixed)
N.Y. Daily News ^ | March 13, 2002 | Rush and Malloy

Skip to the next item if you don't want to find out who emerges victorious on Fox-TV's 'Celebrity Boxing' tonight.

We hear, that last week when they stepped into the ring in L.A., disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding walloped Clinton accuser Paula Jones, that Danny Bonaduce ('The Partridge Family') bested Barry Williams ('The Brady Bunch'), and that Todd Bridges ('Diffrent Strokes') melted down Vanilla Ice (aka Bob Van Winkle)

Not that you'll necessarily see those outcomes.

Multiple endings were taped for each fight. For instance, in one version Bonaduce is said to be disqualified. A rep for the show tells us the alternate endings were taped so that the live audience wouldn't know the outcome until it is aired.

I wish FOX would be as careful with their other programming as they are with the News. Shows like this are in the Jerry Spring genre. Yuck!

Um, like I'd watch or that I care. Does the name "Darva Conger" come to mind?

It's called "entertainment," even though this is a stretch.

This is the first time that the California athletic comission has been quoted on the matter, they want nothing to do with this.

Well who does want to have anything to do with this. People may have thought the athletic commission had sanctioned this...this...publicity stunt.

...and then there's the other fight on that card that had half-pint Daschel pummelling Trent Lott - although they didn't have to fix that one.

Of course it is - they're using real women, aren't they?

No, but they had to call it off anyway, as Lott kept complaining that his ankles were getting sore.

Oh, yuk. Just when you thought it was safe.....I suppose WWF is *real* too?

I'll make sure I put on a good DVD that night & wish the world--or at least this, a fake boxing match between has-beens and nobodies--away.

I forget, what is it that makes this different from "real" boxing?
