VATICAN CITY -- Pope John Paul II has accepted the resignation of a Florida bishop who sexually abused a teen-age student at a Missouri seminary more than 25 years ago, the highest-ranking clergyman to fall in a series of scandals rocking the Roman Catholic Church in the United States.
The Vatican's daily bulletin said Wednesday the pope accepted the resignation offered by Bishop Anthony J. O'Connell of Palm Beach.

I (a R.C.) am lead to believe by logical inference that there is more than ONE Bishop out there, and perhaps even a Cardinal or two who is guilty of child molesting- and that this explains a lot about the recurrent and massive cover-ups for lower-ranking Priests.
The vow of celibacy has NEVER worked well, and should be modified or abolished. There is no reason that Priests have to be homosexual, or so sexually confused and immature that they resort to molesting children -EVER!

Since it seem that these so called "men of the cloth" are having a hard time of it. It should be a matter of choice. If you prefer to go by the vow of chastity you should be able to and if you want you should have the option of marrying. What gets to me is that these people know before they even go into the church that one of the vows is chastity. I feel that if you can't deal with it GET OUT OF THE CHURCH! I know they are human but noone put a gun to their head and told them they have to stay in the church. there is absolutely no excuse for their actions!

It doesn't seem a matter of getting married. We're not hearing of clergy having affairs - but rather - molesting male children. Does that not make them HOMOSEXUALS as well as PEDOPHILES? I'm surprised the gay aspect of it has not been alluded to.

Good essay by Buckley on this
And also at NRO, Rod Dreher's columns.
His latest one
Andrew Sullivan's Gay Problem mentions a book coming out in April,
Goodbye!, Good Men about the loss of two generations of vocations by control of seminaries and chanceries by the 'lavender mafia' (Fr Andrew Greeley's phrase).
