I had no idea about his daughter...this must have been devestating. I can only imagine, as my own daughter was severely injured last fall.
But my disappointment in him remains.

I remember people talking about Congressman Ford running for the senate. He's a Dem and is on FOX NEWS a lot. I hope he doesn't step up because he would probably win. I'm not too worried about Gramm, Helms, or Thurmond's seat but this one worries me. Frist is from Tennessee too so maybe he has someone in mind to step up to the plate.

My kids and I got into a Senate building subway car and sat across from Sen. Thompson and Sen. Heflin for the brief ride over to the Capitol Building years ago.
After the introductions, Heflin asked my son (8 years old) how much money he had in his wallet that was chained to this belt loop. My son pulled the wallet out and started counting, Thompson interrupted him and said "Son, let this be a lesson to you, never open your wallet in front of a politician". I got a good laugh out of that.

Thompson's seat is up for election this year.
The rumour has been that Congressman Ed Bryant would seek the Senate seat if Thompson did not run for re-election.
The qualifying deadline for candidates is April 4th.

Good news since that saves us a lot of time effort, and money that would have otherwise gone in to trying to defeat him and his fellow RINO Democrat Incumbent Protection Act supporters!

Egads, what if Gore decides to run?Probably meet the same fate he did in 2000. Remember, he lost his home state.

Ford comes from an overwhelmingly democrat district and had been too liberal for the state as a whole. He would lose a statewide election.

Turnover is good. Perhaps a good conservative will seek the office. Now if only Ted Kennedy and his ilk would realize that government is not a career.

OK, I'll take your word for it because I don't really know anything about Tennessee politics.

We are going to have a very tough time getting the Senate back now. Now we have to fight for this seat also. Really hurts the cause.

What about Don Sundquist the Governor of Tenn. as the Republican Candidate. The Politics1.com site indicates that he cannot run again because of term limits. Is he a winner for the good guys if he runs?
To: Kaisersrsic
Sundquist is pushing for a tax increase. No way.

drc43....Mismanaged???
Glenn walked away from the hearings with everything but Thompsons shorts. Fred should have been ashamed of himself. I for one am glad to see him go.

You beat me to it. I don't know much about Tennessee politics but I do know that Sundquist is not the guy we want.

what we want is someone that will vote with the Pubbies to confirm Bush's judicial choices...anything more than that, at this point, is gravy.

A Republican with great credentials among Tennesseans is Lamar Alexander. He's not a die-hard Conservative, but is a good guy, and he would win the election. I hope he runs. I'll back him and vote for him if he does.

Post 30: Kennedy will not quit. He will die in office. He will try to beat Thurman's time in the Senate if he can. He can't quit. He would die tomorrow without something to cry about.

Our primary is in August, and they just two weeks ago started picking up papers to run.
