The Bush administration, frustrated over its inability to stop bloodletting in the Middle East, is starting to lean on Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon while continuing to urge Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to call off attacks on Israelis.
President Bush so far has not joined the criticism of Israel, but Secretary of State Colin Powell and White House spokesman Ari Fleischer have begun to jab at Sharon, especially over his declaration of war against Palestinians.

As Charles Krauthammer wrote yesterday, the Saudi peace proposal is a sham. The "peace" proposal has various intentions: to project Saudi Arabia as deeply concerned for peace (hoping we'll forget that the majority of 9/11 attackers were Saudis, and that Saudi Arabia is the principal financial supporter of the Islamic schools where hate is ingrained into Arab youths); to take the focus off the Palestinians who could have peace if they wanted it; to embarrass the Israelis for not accepting this "peace" proposal.
The Bush administration "turning" on the Israelis as worded in the title is a far cry from "leaning" on them as the text of the article clearly reads.
