A radio talk show caller named "Dan" had a suggestion last Wednesday morning for Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon.
Political rival Richard Riordan, responding to the revelation that Simon had registered in New York as an independent -- not a Republican -- told reporters Tuesday that the shirt he was wearing "has been a Republican longer than Bill Simon."

Great article about the power of talk radio and grassroots politics. Grassroots is not just walking precincts anymore ... it's burning up the phone lines through talk AND the internet!
Note to Mr. Lapsley who thinks that Davis' ads helped Simon on talk radio: if, as you say, Jones has made more talk show appearances than Simon and Davis' ads against Riordan were the deciding factor, why didn't Jones make any movement upwards?
I know why: Simon is a true Reagan Republican, he had a message and ideas he was able to articulate to voters through the media and follow-up on talk radio. He doesn't have a hard, angry edge to him ... people like him because he's genuine.
And thank GOD I do not have to listen to that idiot Rangle who thinks that we'll "win the battle and lose the war" ... we all know here that if Riordan wins the primary, the election would be about RIORDAN and NOT about Gray Davis' failed education, energy and budget policies. Riordan couldn't win a statewide election no matter HOW liberal or conservative he is.
Go Simon!

No that wasn't me who called the Hogue show.

Stoos and Hogue are good guys. Too bad they're limited to brian-dead, Godforsaken Sacramento; they're better than the town.

Stoos, a solid Simon supporter, makes fun of the Riordan spots after they air. "We have to run their ads," he said. "Then we get the First Amendment to say whatever we want when we come back on." This is a crack up. Too bad every talk host dodn't have this kind of courage!
I listen to this guy Stoos all the time. He's on KFIA 710 in Sacramento during my drive-home time 5-7. He really knows a lot about politics and always has a good conservative spin on the issues of the day.

Thanks for the ping. I don't have to read it all now, but wanted to say that Simon got an endorsement from my pastor Sunday. He also told everyone to be sure to vote on Tuesday. (RIGHT ON!) I also talked to a couple friends who said the same thing about their churches.

Hey! Don't knock Sacramento. I live in the suburbs of Sacramento ... it's better here than raising kids in L.A.! :-)

We need to make sure that over the next 8 months -- should Simon win tomorrow!!! -- we work in our churches and register people who aren't registered, and encourage people to work to elect Bill Simon.
Go Simon!

"I think there is a philosophical battle going on in the minds of a lot of people who may not hold Dick's view of inclusiveness close to their heart but who want to beat Gray Davis," Hartwig said. How is Riordan inclusive?

Phil, For some reason, the post ate the message. Half of this article is an excellent discussion of talk radio. Thought you'd like it.

Why don't you read that Simon quote again and explain how he's supporting an immigrant invasion? Support for a "guest worker program" hardly seems like support for criminal and illegal aliens coming across the border.

Radio talks in tight contest -- Conversations show Simon gathering strength He's gathering strength all right. He's also faster than a speeding bullet, able to .....oh well you know....
