"Counterterrorism experts and government officials interviewed by TIME say that for all the relative calm since Sept. 11, Americas luck will probably run out again, sooner or later." "It's going to be worse, and a lot of people are going to die," warns one U.S. counterterrorism official. "I don't think there's a damn thing we're going to be able to do about it."
Read on:...That made the DRAGONFIRE report alarming. So did this: detonated in lower Manhattan, a 10-kiloton bomb would kill some 100,000 civilians and irradiate 700,000 more, flattening everything in a half-mile diameter.
The following is more information that you can use to protect yourself, and your family. Also, in your opinion, is the administration correct? Are we likely to see a ten kiloton device set off inside the country? Please keep in mind that this kind of nuke is very small, and easily carried by one or two persons, today.

Overpress=17 psi. Wind velocity=290 mph.
- [3] Severe Blast Damage
- Factories and other large-scale building collapse. Severe damage to highway bridges. Rivers sometimes flow countercurrent.
65% fatalities, 30% injured.
Overpress=9 psi. Wind velocity=260 mph.
- [4] Severe Heat Damage
- Everything flammable burns. People in the area suffocate due to the fact that most available oxygen is consumed by the fires.
50% fatalities, 45% injured.
Overpress=6 psi. Wind velocity=140 mph.
- [5] Severe Fire & Wind Damage
- Residency structures are severely damaged. People are blown around. 2nd and 3rd-degree burns suffered by most survivors.

Hiroshima
As many know, atomic bombs have been used only twice in warfare. The first and foremost blast site of the atomic bomb is Hiroshima. A Uranium bomb (which weighed in at over 4 & 1/2 tons) nicknamed "Little Boy" was dropped on Hiroshima August 6th, 1945. The Aioi Bridge, one of 81 bridges connecting the seven-branched delta of the Ota River, was the aiming point of the bomb. Ground Zero was set at 1,980 feet. At 0815 hours, the bomb was dropped from the Enola Gay. It missed by only 800 feet. At 0816 hours, in the flash of an instant, 66,000 people were killed and 69,000 people were injured by a 20 kiloton atomic explosion.
The point of total vaporization from the blast measured one half of a mile in diameter. Total destruction ranged at one mile in diameter. Severe blast damage carried as far as two miles in diameter. At two and a half miles, everything flammable in the area burned. The remaining area of the blast zone was riddled with serious blazes that stretched out to the final edge at a little over three miles in diameter.
On August 9th 1945, Nagasaki fell to the same treatment as Hiroshima. Only this time, a Plutonium bomb nicknamed "Fat Man" was dropped on the city. Even though the "Fat Man" missed by over a mile and a half, it still leveled nearly half the city. Nagasaki's population dropped in one split-second from 422,000 to 383,000. 39,000 were killed, over 25,000 were injured. That blast was less than 10 kilotons as well. Estimates from physicists who have studied each atomic explosion state that the bombs that were used had utilized only 1/10th of 1 percent of their respective explosive capabilities.

Savage, are you Michael? I've spoken to you before, if you are. Sure, we think about the now, not a year from now when things will have died down even more. Then comes the next wave....

A New York City blast would also take out the United Nations, a much despised target of terrorists.
It isn't a good time to be living in the Big Apple....

TEN YEARS?????? FORGET Just TEN YEARS!!!! No muslim would even DREAM OF BEING admitted for the next 200 YEARS MINIMUM!!!!!

How big is big? Have you seen the size of the backpack, or suitcase nukes?

Yeah, it's hard to use incendiaries on houses that consist of piles of rocks. A few kilotons of pressure, though, will make up for that minor detail....

Well if these scenarios ever become a reality (God forbid) we can only thank ourselves for the turning away from God. History is replete with nations that have abandon morality and religion only to become a footnote in the annuls of once great powers. Since the 60s we have abandon God and now we must reap the bitter harvest.If it weren't the muslims it would be the North Koreans or the Chinese just as it was Darius or Nebuchadnezzar. God always uses evil to wipe out evil.

#57: OK, so the 'bomb' goes bang in a major American city.
Just who do we 'retaliate massively' against?
Do we make Afghanistan, Libia, Iran and Iraq parking lots?
And how about Saudi Arabia where 15 out of the 19, 9-11 hijackers called home? Should we add them to the list?
I say, for a first step in homeland security, we lock down our borders and deport all non Americans asap....

I am convinced that the terrorists were going to take down the Sears tower in Chicago on 9/11. After our President had the FAA ground all planes, there were box cutters found on a plane that was supposed to take off from Toronto. If our President had not grounded that plane, I believe that it would have headed for the Sears tower where I was supposed to be the next day. The heartland of America was a target on 9/11, but it was saved by a quick decision by a great leader.
I also believe that the reason for the "Axis of Evil" statement is that those countries are getting close to getting their hands on nuclear weapons. If we don't stop the "Axis of Evil" before they do, it will get a whole lot worse.
To: wretchard
The secondary effect will be crime in major cities. The vile people who live among us will use the opportunity to steal. They will kick in your door and a horde will invade your home.
Keep your powder dry, and your guns clean. You never know when you will need them.

I agree that we would respond fast and devastate all Muslim countries within a few days of any nuclear blast in an American city. A back-door warning to this effect might help, but what country can stop the religious, terrorist weirdos operating in their midst?
To: wretchard
The only possible response to a nuke must be an immediate counterstrike with hundreds of nuclear weapons on every Islamic country... I think, that in the "Axis of Evil" Bush is identifying the countries that would be sterilized should there be such an attack on this nation.
To: antidemocommie
This author's impressive explanations of nuclear blasts, are extremely accurate and chilling, however, the quotation from the Time article is quoted out of context, and appears to be meant to convey hysteria. The sky is NOT falling! The only thing to fear..........you know the rest of the quote.
To: neutrino
Are you saying that if we got nuked that our nation does not have the resolve to nuke them back?? After all, we have a large supply of "limited" nuclear weapons. But ... how would we choose which one of the "axis of evil" to target??

"Congress is full of creeps who think more about their jobs than they do about liberty." They didn't get there on their own. This is a representative democracy. It took "people of like mind" to elect them to represent them.
The base of the DemocRAT party are the base of the earth:
[1] Cynical opportunists, and their
[2] Useful idiots (FROGS)
Look in your dictionary under: ignoble, ignominious, base, emasculated, feminized, weak, arrogant, elitist, RAT and SNAKE, and you'll see, and find links to even more of, their [word] pictures.
They have been busy emasculating/feminizing this country for the better part of 60 to 100 years ... making us weak and vulnerable to attack on MANY fronts.
These are the shallow, self-serving mentalities that elected Clinton ... not once ... but twice .... and his, and the DemocRAT parties' legacy is their legacy.
To: wretchard
No, no, no. Remember economy of force? Using "hundreds" of nukes is overkill. Selected cities and logistics points only need be hit. Famine and disease will take care of the rest.
To: Mike Darancette
I think, that in the "Axis of Evil" Bush is identifying the countries that would be sterilized should there be such an attack on this nation. I think you are EXACTLY right. The reason that BUSH identified these countries is to let them know that if ANYTHING like this happened to the USA they are toast ... whether they were involved or not ... as it should be
To: Matchett-PI
I totally agree. They are the selfserving, selfconcerned marxists who want whatever government can give them.
