NAACP Protests over Confederate flag continue

COLUMBIA - The NAACP plans to begin "border patrols" today to discourage visitors from spending money in South Carolina, part of an ongoing protest over the Confederate flag flying on Statehouse grounds.

The civil rights organization plans to picket the eight welcome centers along the state's borders with North Carolina and Georgia. Volunteers also will hand out leaflets urging travelers to keep their money in their pockets.

"We're prepared at all of the centers. We won't be surprised if they're at North Augusta," Marion Edmonds, spokesman for the South Carolina Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department, said Friday.

The department's employees staff the state's nine welcome centers, which are Department of Transportation property.

"I don't think there will be any activity that will block people from using the centers like they normally do," Mr. Edmonds said. "And our employees are not going to get involved with any discussion of the issue. Our role is not to be a commentator."

He said, to his knowledge, the protests on the state welcome centers' grounds are a first.

Attorney General Charlie Condon has said he will sue the NAACP if the patrols go forward and law enforcement officials will be out in full force when the three-hour protests begin.

"The governor is disappointed in this effort," said Cortney Owings, spokeswoman for Democratic Gov. Jim Hodges. "If it is successful, it could end up hurting African-American businesses in South Carolina."

The national NAACP boycott began in January 2000 when the Confederate flag still flew atop the Statehouse dome.

In July of that year, a compromise among lawmakers removed that flag and others that flew in the House and Senate chambers, putting a similar banner up at the Confederate Soldier Monument on Statehouse grounds.

While the compromise satisfied many groups, the NAACP continued its boycott, saying the flag still flew in a position of sovereignty.

Mr. Edmonds said the boycott had a definite impact on the tourism industry when it began, but that has changed.

Dwight James, the executive director of the South Carolina NAACP, has said the organization was not involved in that compromise. He said the compromise didn't satisfy the group's requirements.

A little story to share with my SCFREEPER neighbors to the East.

After Hugo, my employer(ww2 vet) and neighbor, got a call from a contractor about going to Florence, SC and doing some remodeling work. Since work was slow around Atlanta, we loaded up the tools and drove to Florence.

Our contact was a lumber/ hardware in downtown. When we arrived, we met the owner. He was a black preacher and I forget his name(help from Florence FREEPERS), so I'll call him Rev.

After a very warm greeting and introduction to family, he handed us a set of keys and said, " Here's a set of keys to a little rental house of mine. It's yours till you leave. If you need money or any thing, let me know." We were kinda surprised, especially since we had already rented a room.

It was early November when we arrived, and we stayed untill the following Halloween. Every moment spent working for the Rev. was one of the most rewarding of my 16 year career. He paid good and on time. He was upfront with what he expected for the price given. Not one person whose house we spent time repairing ever seemed to be unhappy with the Rev. or bickered about the work. Many times he would give us extra pay for a job and tell us to do something extra the customer wasn't expecting to receive. On top of paying us good, he never asked for a dime of rent or utility money.

At the end of our last week, he invited us to dinner at a local prime rib restaurant. As we became seated, he ordered an expensive bottle of wine. After everyone had a glass full, the Rev. stood up and toasted me and Mr. Ezell. He thanked us for our work, and wished us well. After our Excellent prime rib with fixings, we stood up to leave. Rev. came over and handed us both envelopes with some crisp, fragrant, Franklins stashed inside.

I often think of him and his kidness, how he made two redneck, white, Georgia, country people feel like they were never strangers. If any SCFREEPERS know who I'm talking about, please freepmail me with his name. I'd like to thank him.

He is the kind of good, black people who will suffer because of the racist actions of the NAACP.(Non- profit my a@$#).

Attorney General Charlie Condon has said he will sue the NAACP if the patrols go forward and law enforcement officials will be out in full force when the three-hour protests begin.

And Condon needs to bill the NAACP for all the police overtime incured during this protest.

Note too that Under the Sherman Anti-trust act, those corporations other than labor unions promoting a third-party boycott can face legal actions by state attorneys- general that include triple damages and payment of legal costs associated with prosecuting their illegal acts. *see FReeppost *here**

A second or other repeated similar action by the NAACP could constitute the *continuing pattern of criminal activity* needed to have the NAACP declared a racketeer-influenced corrupt organization, and provide for the removal of the officers of that organization promoting such racketeering activity, just as the Teamsters Union officials were so removed. We shall see.

Shouldn't they be worried about: illegtiamacy, high prison populations, getting off welfare, owning businesses, drug abuse, abortions (the Negro Project by Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood), gang violence (Bloods and Krips) etc. instead of a piece of cloth????

No worries Shuck, blacks are on the way out as the favored minority of bootlicking liberals and Democrats whoring for their votes and input. Hispanics so vastly outnumber blacks (and whites too for that matter) that the issue of the Confederate Flag and other historical symbols and personalities being used by liberal black moron racists is nothing more than grasping at straws for attention from liberals who are moving ever further away from them as a group to please or appease. In fact, the more blacks continue the "hate whitey", and hate the Confederate Flag, and hate Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin, etc garbage, the more irrelevant and distant they become, except to imbeciles like the usual anti-American and South-bashing suspects that feed this mindless screed. Blacks will discover much too late that race based social organization is the worst thing that could happen to them when their numbers and impact shrink to insignificance compared to that of others. But, by then it will be too late to snuggle up to whitey for attention and a second chance because whitey and politicians have already found another best buddy. Again, I told them so.

I'm not worried, but you are still always welcome to visit. I'm a Yankee by birth (New Jersey) but a Southerner (for 44 years) by choice, and the Grace of God.

I thank you kindly for the invitation and extend the hope that you get the chance to visit the Kansas City area some time. As for the NAACP, well, I wish that people would let South Carolina settle her issues herself.

YOU AND WALT GONNA BE OUT THERE IN BLACKFACE HELPING OUT YOUR BUDS?

I finally figured out what you were talking about.

No, I make a point to stay out of South Carolina as much as possible. I used to drive up and down I-20 quite a bit when I was stationed at Camp Lejeune.

I think the NCAAP protest at the rest stops is a bit of a stretch. Of course it is easy to help honor their boycott of the state, as it is the most backwards place in the country.

I guess the mindset that says, "screw you, we'll fly the battle flag even if offends you and in fact will fly it JUST to offend you", is the same -sort- of mindset that makes heroes of men who could engage in treason and unwarranted rebellion to support keeping other men in chains.

WHAT IF: While the naacp is so preoccupied doing this and using up needed police resources in South Carolina terrorist are able to move some nuclear materials inside the state and produce a dirty bomb and use it. What if while the police resources used for the naaccp are preoccupied terrorist blow up a nuclear plant in South Carolina. What if the naacp is actually acting in conjunction with terrorist groups for the overthrow of the American Government. Now what would happen if: The naacp used their time and effort to promote responsibility in the African American Community such as-education,family responsibility, working to be the best they can for themselves, family and country. If Kweisa Mufume,Jesse Jackson,Al Sharpton and the likes actually had to get a job(GOD FORBID). If the Attorney General of South Carolina and all of the businesses in South Carolina actually brought suit against the naacp for interfering with the free enterprise system and corruption under the RICO STATUE! What would happen if the masses in America awoke and finally said enough is enough. FACTS: The naacp is a racist organization and can be proven. They take monies from local governments and distribute it strictly to African Americans. The scholarships they distribute are strictly for African Americans and they use monies collected from taxes of all Americans. All of the programs they promote using tax payer dollars are stictly for African Americans only with the exception of some of their law suits that can be brought about for other minorities if they cover civil law and the naacp can recoup money for it. You have government bodies such as a city or county in South Carolina that join the naacp as corporate sponsors through their elected officals voting to do so. These sponsorships now cost $5000.00 of all taxpayers monies. Therefore that makes your elected body participate in a racist venture.

Well I certainly think South Carolina is much better off by the likes of you staying out. That is what is wrong here now too many vermin have migrated into the state. You say you were stationed at Lejeune so therefore I suppose you were a Marine and if so what if the American Flags were removed would you agree with that?Remember the Korean War and a little place called Vietnam were considered to be unjust wars. But unfortunately most Americans that died under the flag had no recourse,so the point I am making dont desecrate the dead for all that matters to me you can give every African American living that was a slave whatever it is they want as long as it is out of the pockets of those who owned slaves but I am white and I have been a slave to this system all of my life through no fault of my own so if thats the case I want my part also.

Maybe if these hucksters spent as much effort on the real issues confronting black america,(out of wedlock birthrate, drug use, crime, employment, education, stereotypes, etc.) This would become a moot issue. I just don't understand.
