Isn't it amazing that with the USA security, nothing happened at the Olympics, so we're negatively critisized. That is, in itself, the most irrational statement immaginable. Euroweenies is an appropriate label.

In a free and vibrant society, truthful and dependable news and information is essential. Its dissemination, like a briskly flowing, life-giving river, is the stable of human liberty itself.

Truth is not a free good, and the First Amendment does not guarantee us "the truth". To the contrary it stipulates that the government shall not muzzle us even when somebody (or most everybody) thinks we are wrong. Sorting out the truth is not the government's job; we the people have that task, and cannot delegate it and remain free.

It's why Shays-Meehan's attempt to muzzle citizen groups while handing Big Media sole proprietorship over retailing political news is so insidious -- and dangerous. Both are enshrined in the bill, a dastardly twisted piece of deceit in the guise of "reform".

Big Media has two distinct components: print journalism and broadcast journalism. The First Amendment could scarcely be clearer that print journalism--any print medium--can say 'most anything it wants.

But broadcasting as we know it--hence broadcast journalism as we know it--would not exist without government censorship. Without, that is, government's assigning certain frequencies at certain locations to certain people and forbidding anyone to broadcast without leave.

The author and ratifiers of the First Amendment surely would have loved FR and hated the FCC; access to publishing in the former is more democratic than the press whereas the latter is purely government regulation and elitism. It is ironic that Democrats started talking about "the rich man's wallet and the poor man's soap box" at the very moment that the internet in general and FreeRepublic in particular was empowering "the poor man's soap box." CFR advocates, however, desire the opposite. They desire to censor we the people. They have not the slightest thought of censoring the people who believe the press cllippings they themselves lovingly write about their own objectivity.

The welcome wagon may be headed into the sunset.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We've seen it all before. Remember when we were a bunch of tacky, uncultured upstarts? Unwashed masses? Unwanted peasante? Deja vu! Just wait until they want us to come bail them out again. They they'll be our best friends. “Really. We mean it this time. Honest and truly. Now and forever. Blah. Blah. Blah.” And hell, we'll probably save their sorry ungrateful bohunckuses again.

If it were not for us Americans, you Frenchmen would be Germans. And you Germans would be Russians.

Foul weather friends!

The real truth is that we have no real allies. I accept this and therefore I care less what any other group thinks of us.

I've got to be honest, I always cringe a little when I hear Webster’s worst English being spoken, and I can’t claim to care for all things American

Hell, I feel the same way. And I'm a fourteenth generation American.

"I have a very negative view of the Americans because they are intolerant, they focus on themselves and they think only about themselves,"

What a shock, a frog doesn't like us. I could care less what the frogs or any other euro-trash socialists think of us. How is it that they only find the dregs of the earth to interview in Europe when there are lots of Europeans that agree with us?

Excellent catch, and excellent essay from you, John!

And here's another one I love from right after 9-11, in case not everyone saw it back then.

Why do they hate America?

Here's just a bit of it, from the British author of this piece at the UK Times:

'I am sick of my generation's whining ingratitude, its wilful, infantile loathing of the great, tumultuous, witty and infinitely clever nation that has so often saved us from ourselves. But I am heartened by something my 19- year-old daughter said: "America has always been magic to us, we don't understand why you lot hate it so much."'

"Americans may not yet be fully aware of this, but the fact is that anti-American sentiments are resurfacing in Europe," the Belgian newspaper De Standaard wrote earlier this month.

Resurfacing? The Europeans have always disliked America and never bother to hide their resentment and their negative feelings toward us.

LOL.....let them hate us if they want to. America is the most powerful country in the world. All America has done in our history to help other countries and they are still ungrateful to us.

The only country that ever paid us back as far as I know is Finland, just a tiny place but they paid us back. hahahhaaa.....

Thanks John for the ping.

These countries would have critized us if we had done nothing ahout the attack on us too. It is a no win situtaion. America is better off just doing what President Bush said.... either for us or with the terrorists.

FOUL WEATHER FRIENDS

An Original Poem by the Savage Beast

When we liberated Paris

They showered us with flowers!

It was true love forever without end!

But as storm clouds subsided

And sunny skies abided

We couldn't get 'em on the friggin' phone!

Now they blow their nose at us

And sneer at us and cuss,

But wait until we have another rain.

Through the storm, as lightening hisses,

They will shower us with kisses

And love forever after once again.
