The agents were at Traps, which sells skateboards and apparel near the University of Utah, when they apparently forgot the sensitive document titled "site post assignment log."
"It had a pretty detailed description about what was going on," said Clayton Greenhalgh, the store owner who discovered the document lying on a counter after the agents each purchased an $11 Olympic souvenir hat.
Secret Service spokesman Marc Connolly declined to comment on the apparent goof, saying he could not confirm Sunday night that the log had been misplaced. But on Sunday, a reporter for The Salt Lake Tribune was shown the missing document by the shop's owner.
The log described seating arrangements at Rice-Eccles Stadium for Cheney, his wife and daughter, and other dignitaries who attended the Olympic finale. It also detailed over a dozen areas of the stadium where Cheney was to go, including one "meet and mingle" session and the Presidential Box.
The document also contained the exact number of Secret Service agents who were to provide secur- ity, where they would be stationed, and their specific assignments.
The log also revealed the "sweep time" -- or the time when agents secured the stadium for Cheney -- hours before his arrival.
"I thought I'd better be a patriot and return it," Greenhalgh said. "People lose their keys. They shouldn't lose something like that."
When he called to report the mistake, a Secret Service representative promised that an agent would soon pick up the log. After 45 minutes, no one had arrived, so he volunteered to take it to the agency's downtown Salt Lake City office. In exchange, Greenhalgh requested an autographed picture of Cheney, but was rebuffed.
Feeling the incident had been mishandled, he decided to call The Tribune to report it.

The agents that lost the Cheney security plan will be guarding out houses in Jackass Flats, NV on their next assignment.
