Hey, You Want To Run for President? HBO Networks Is Looking to Back Your Candidacy! (Reality Show)
Plastic.com and Home Box Office Network ^ | February 25, 2002 | Brown Jenkins

Posted on 02/25/2002 8:36:27 AM PST by codebreaker

First television documentaries wed two strangers.

Then they document the making of a movie. (with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck)

Now HBO wants to field a presidential candidate,' Brown Jenkins writes.

I don't know about the logistics of this:if HBO will help pay for the candidacy, do they just want a Time Warner pupper in the White House?

HBO gives you free advertising and a platform from which to espouse your beliefs.

How's that for a confict of interest?

Sounds like the liberal have given up and want to start over with as much ad time as possible to create their own candidate.

HBO isn't an over-the-air broadcaster using public bandwidth - it's a subscription service transmitted via satellite/cable. I would venture to guess that they probably aren't bound by those laws.

I think they would still qualify as a licensed TV station, though I'm not clear on those many telecommunications acts.
But, perhaps HBO can get an exemption if they pretend to be showing a documentary on running for president, not focused on their candidate.

More likely, the real candidates will reject many of the equal opportunity offers because they will not want to spend the time.

Yup, they will cloak it as a documentary.

Actually, if you read the application, it looks more like they are going to shoot a reality show in the last 8 months of 2002 and then let it drop. They just want to have a spokesperson to "investigate" the attitudes of current youth. They have no intention of actually fielding a candidate for 2012, but the victim might get an extension - who can tell?

We could hijack this thing through lawsuits and make them file our candidate and provide him/her with a candidacy..

They dont want me....I dont know the longitude and latitude of Bahrain, so im unfit for president ( or so says liberals). Plus, I wouldnt please the welfare recipients, gays, bottom feeders and enviro whackos. The U.S. is not ready for my leadership.

Unfortunately, a quick search tells me Tonya's not eligible, since she pled to a felony during her unfortunate skating career...

Not that I can see - no jail time, but some hefty fines and community service. It was apparently felony "conspiracy to hinder an investigation" ;)

Clearly they want a leftwinger since 29 is the cutoff.

What's the quote??? "If you're 20 and not liberal you don't have a heart, but if you're 30 and not conservative you don't have a brain." Close?

Which of you will step forward? Today, whole lifelong careers start with less than this.

Flood them with talent, theyll have to pick one of you!

I'll be 33 in 2012. If it was 2016, I could do it.

LOL. I have NO desire to be president anyway. I'd be an awful president.

The convention episode was hilarious. Harry Anderson played Tanner's coordinator for the convention, and he played the character as an obnoxious ass, throwing Tanner's people out of the "war room" left and right. Of course, Tanner got no votes.

But there was a wonderful scene where Mrs. Dukakis appeared to ask Tanner to support her husband after the convention. Still, it would have been funnier if Dukakis himself had appeared on the show.
