First television documentaries wed two strangers.
Then they document the making of a movie. (with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck)
Now HBO wants to field a presidential candidate,' Brown Jenkins writes.
I don't know about the logistics of this:if HBO will help pay for the candidacy, do they just want a Time Warner pupper in the White House?
HBO gives you free advertising and a platform from which to espouse your beliefs.
How's that for a confict of interest?

How about Daniel Parra! At least he would make a good 'reality candidate.'

You have to be between the ages of 24 and 29 and plan to "be elected" in 2012.
Where do I file my age discrimination lawsuit?

Who can get to the courthouse first?

This is a liberals dream, making a mockery of the election system under the guise of liberal propoganda and then making a movie about it to garner more attention for the socialist cause.

All the more reason to infiltrate this project with a "stealth candidate" from FR. I'm peeved, though - I just turned 30 less than a month ago, so I'm ineligible...

This sounds taylor made for us....how about Utah Girl?

I say we get Judicial Watch to file suit... LOL!!

HBO gives you free advertising That may have serious problems with FCC laws.
Broadcasters must offer equal time advertising opportunities to opposing candidates, at a similar time slot, for the same price.

I can't say I know her well enough to judge, but let's give it a whirl...

She's from Utah, how much trouble could she have ever gotten into there?
To: heleny
Good point they would have to advertise for all the major candidates.
To: Utah Girl
A "you're being drafted" ping ;)
To: codebreaker
If the candidate HBO offers is not a major contender (and probably won't be), must HBO offer equal time to the likely candidates?
Chelsea Clinton is not yet 24. :)

HBO isn't an over-the-air broadcaster using public bandwidth - it's a subscription service transmitted via satellite/cable. I would venture to guess that they probably aren't bound by those laws.

HBO fielded a presidential candidate in 1988. His name was Jack Tanner. He was a fictional Democratic congressman running for president, and a number of prominent Democrats made appearances on the show in a mock
cinema verite. Tanner even had a mistress!
Been there. Done that.

We might have to see about that!

I say we get Judicial Watch to file suit... I always think of those old "Life" cereal commercials when I think of Judicial Watch.
"Hey, let's get Larry - he'll sue anyone!"
To: general_re
Utah Girl for president ping! She loves Donnie & Marie, The Mormon Tabernacle Chior, and Polygamy Porter...(campaign slogan?)
To: Publius
Wasn't that just a fake TV show?
