The National Olympic Committee of South Korea released an official statement about the demarche.
The Koreans are going to boycott the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics that is to take place February 24.
This decision was made because of the fact that the Olympic officials disqualifed the South Korean speedskater Kim Dong-Sung, who had won the 1.5 kilometer race according to all rules. (Russian translation-ed.) The gold medal was re-awarded to an American athlete-yes, of course.
The representatives of South Korea did not hide their emotions. As RTR television channel informed, they said it was 'uncovered plundering and a slap in the face of the national sport.'
The director of the South Korean delegation claimed the Koreans were seriously considering a possibility of withdrawing all of their athletes from the competitions and bidding farewell to America.

Maybe we should withdraw our military forces from their country.
I'm sure that the North Koreans wouldn't mind.

And the silver medal for Cheating Whiners goes to.....

I want to see them add bear-baiting to the menu. Maybe fill an amphitheater with water and stage mock naval battles too.

From the stories I've read, Athenes is wayyyy behind in preparations for 2004. Athenians don't even have phone service, how can they possibly hold another Olympics?
To: codebreaker
Does this mean we will not get the see them throw their flag down on the ground twice?
To: codebreaker
Does Korea want some cheese with that whine?

Too bad we won't say we're boycotting the DMZ. Then the South Koreans would really have something to worry about. And we'd see how excited they really are about reunification. Heh heh heh.

I admire the Olympic athletes. The rest of the crew can go home.

Did he step on the Korean Flag too after the race?
To: mewzilla
Yup they might want to 'reconsider' this reaction.

What I want is paintball guns in the Cross Country skiing events, and open up the rules poking the other guy with a pole or puch him in the mouth.
Then if you get far behind unload with paintballs.

No doubt the media will leap to blame the Korean boycott of closing ceremonies on President Bush's State of the Union speech. I can see the headlines:
President Bush does Triple Axis Of Evil Speech and wrecks the Olympic spirit. yeah, right.

Did the Korean guy cheat?? If he did, tough luck! Why are all of these whining countries the ones who cheat.....and think that winning is winning....even if they cheat? I say pull the plug on the Olympics. The stench is ruining the event.

The Koreans will probably back down, I don't think they are usually this militant, but the media will never miss a chance to take a shot..
To: codebreaker
Why are they waiting to boycott the closing ceremony? If they were serious, they would have pulled out after their "short track star" got caught cheating! I worry that that they will take out Ohno tonight.

They certainly have precedence for their idiotic threats. Good old Jimmy Carter cancelled our participation in the Olympics after Russia invaded Afghanistan. Our athletes were left with nothing. In stepped Ted Turner and the Goodwill Games. A damned poor substitute for the real thing.

Q: Do you know why they have trouble with riots in South Korea?
A: Because after a big bowl of Kim Chee what's a little tear gas?
