A spaniel was having her ears blow-dried, a dalmatian was soaking his paws. Tiny terriers were being cuddled. Neatly coifed poodles, with perfect pom-pom tails, proudly pranced up and down the aisles. A monster bullmastiff seemed to scowl as a Great Dane strutted by.

That wasn't a dog, it was a topiary with teeth.

And it doesn't need a groomer. It needs a gardener.

I dont understand this... everybody knows basset hounds are the "master race" of dog-dom.
Poodles are only good for hog feed.

You betcha. And I'd've made one of those rescue dogs best in show and to heck with the frou-frou.

What a great article.

The poodle just happened to be a more perfect specimen of the standard for the breed and beat out less-perfectly comforming dogs. However, I thought the Ridgeback was really beautiful. They did a close-up of its eyes and they seemed to gleam with intelligece.

Poor poodle dude. He didn't choose that haircut, ya know. Could be he's quite macho at home and struts around with a hair pick stuck in the fro, drinking Gatorade after a game of basketball with da boys.

Every cliché about man's best friend, loyalty and unconditional love swept through my mind.

That's what makes mine Best in Show at my house.

Was watching the dog show. Had to stop for a while because I looked down and there was this little shaggy dog, a Heinz 57, sitting there with her rope toy in her mouth looking at me and wagging her tail hopefully. Even if I spent an hour grooming her in less than five minutes you would never be able to tell it.

Did you read the story about one of the rescue dogs getting depressed because it wasn't finding any one alive. The handler noticed the gradual change to the dog so had someone hide under some rubble so they could be "found" by it. Made a huge difference in the dog. Rescue dogs, freeper dogs and mutts are wonderful.

a hearty woof from a Black Lab owner. Captain Flint (named after the parrot in Treasure Island) is a dog with a real personality.

It's difficult to watch dog shows with Max. He barks and growls at the TV. Have to tell him not to look, so he just grumbles and lies down so he can't see it.

I've heard about this happening. I'm glad the handler and his helper were sensitive to the dog's needs. They really need that positive reinforcement!

Thanks for the link. I love the pic of George W. Bush petting that Black Lab. Those dogs and their handlers deserve our gratitude.
