I did the search but I also spent more than 15 composing the post.

I know this is off topic ... but I have asked for a couple of years ... what specific difference does it make that an article is posted more than once? How much extra bandwidth does it involve?

In two years, no one has specifically explained to me why posting an article twice is so bad.

And for those of us who log on to see what is being currently discussed ... it is a blessing .. because we would never have seen the article otherwise.

It can be bad in that it makes it hard to filter through the articles later. Usually it is only bad on a real breaking news story, or like back in the Gore War, when we got 20 articles for every new report from a courthouse. The multiple posts clogged up the breaking news sidebars and pushed other people's posts on different subjects off, which means other important news or interesting articles might not get seen.

On regular days it isn't so bad to have two or three postings, but to make life easier on people doing research, it helps if someone links the articles together so that it is easier to follow the commentary and find comments later.

Ask Jim. Free Republic is like a newspaper. You have to read the whole thing to get all the news. Not every story is breaking or front page news. You'll learn more and be better informed by spending a half hour or hour scrolling through a days posts than by getting your news from the talking heads. You'll find important stories that haven't been posted multiple times. Most duplicate posts stem from people refusing to search. Chances are if you've seen a story somewhere else one of the 80,000 other registered freepers has seen it too and already posted it.
