[history]
LOS ANGELES - Richard Riordan, the front-runner for the GOP gubernatorial nomination, has issued a challenge to fellow California Republicans: Embrace moderate stances such as support for abortion rights or risk becoming ``an extinct species.''
His opponents, businessman Bill Simon and Secretary of State Bill Jones, the GOP's only statewide officeholder, believe Republicans can win without distancing themselves from their bedrock principles.

Riordan challenge GOP to change or die
I could say the same for Dickie Poo, but I don't want to sink to his level. Let me just say Riordan will be DOA if he wins the March primary. Gray Davis will crush him.
With his moderate views on social issues
For the last time (yeah, right), Riordan does not take "moderate" views, he takes left-wing extremist views.

That's it, California is destined to sink into the ocean!

If I believed in reincarnation, I'd swear Riordan was at the helm of the Whig Party when it ran into oblivion in the mid-19th century.

Yeah, Riordans on to something here. The GOP will never be a powerfull force again until they return to the proven, tested, and successful stategy of handing the party over to the Rockefeller wing.

Remember back 20+ years when folks would trick-out their VW beetles with Rolls Royce grilles and accents? They never caught on did it? Because people realized that they weren't the genuine article, and they actually looked rather silly.
That's how I see a moderate Republican...a pale imitation of the original democrat. Whatever could possess a voter to prefer a candidate who played at being his opponent...a person who represents less than all the qualities of the original? Liberals - go figure.

Meaning you have no liberals in Connecticut?

This is just a whiney loser who knows by now he is going to lose. Bill Simon will eat him for lunch - and Riordan is not the front runner - not in my book.

I just got a call from someone who said he was calling from the CRP. He asked me who I was voting for in the primary. I said Simon. "That's what we want to hear!" he said. "Dick Riordan's not a Republican!"
To: William Creel
As a california native i agree with this, many people think they are liberals, but when their ideas and values come out they are liberal only by the way they vote.

some californians are ashamed that they have so much money and vote liberal to feel better. last i checked my home town of newport beach was represented by a liberal in the house. and anyone in the real estate biz knows these are business owners, by their multimillion dollar homes

Dear Dickie R, We would rather die than be a RINO. We might as well join the Democratic party with you as Gov.
