"Have you seen the earnings statements of the airlines recently? I'm not flying anymore."

Hmmm....

The Airlines are or are not making money....I guess I'll never fly again.

Okay.

Not quite sure what kind of sense that makes or what it has to do with this thread...

...but if that is what you wanna do...it's a free country.

Because of the incident, air marshals aboard the plane ordered all passengers to put their hands on their heads for the rest of the flight.

Well, looks like I would be arrested. I would not obey that BS. That is blatantly unconstitutional, IMHO.

Richard Bizarro

How appropriate, considering that we now live in the Bizarro world.

"Perhaps I missed it, but when did it become illegal, or even suspect, to stare at someone who tells you *after* you have just gone to the can, that you *can't* go to the can..."

You missed it.

Authorities said a flight attendant instructed Bizarro to return to his seat immediately after he left the bathroom.

I wonder how many people are appreciating the beginning of our police state. It will only get worse not better folks.

Do not fly, plan ahead, drive.
See the USA in your Chevrolet.
But don't forget your national ID papers.

When the airline industry goes bankrupt they will change some of these silly rules.

all he did was stare at the flt. attendant. There werent any reports of him giving her a hard time.

It was reported that he gave her a one-minute stare-down.

20 years in prison for going to the bathroom...

Had he returned to his seat after going to the restroom, this wouldn't be a story.

I can see detaining the man or maybe even slapping him with a fine but not 20 years.

I doubt he'll get 20 years.

All he has to do is say that he felt faint and disorented and didn't understand her. How are they going to prove him wrong...

Gee, I'm sure glad John McCain wasn't on board, or he would have been arrested, too!

I very much support the Bush Administration's war against terror and have attended many of the peaceful FREEP gatherings in support of our troops.

This was an entirely appropriate use of police authority. Follow the rules & for goodness sakes don't give airplane crews a hard time. He did this going into Salt Lake, too. Inexcusable.

I have difficulty determining where you are coming from. These rules or laws are clearly unconstitutional. This is more like the Nazi gastapo in germany during WWII.

Ummmm....

Hypothetical situation:

I grab a bite to eat at my departure airport from one of the lovely food venders. Upon boarding the plane I get an awfull churning feeling in my gut. 30 minutes into the flight I am running to the bathroom to keep from crapping my pants. Things settle down a bit for a while, but about 30 minutes before we are to land (ok- in this case - Salt Lake City) I get the most awfull cramps and can feel the squirts getting ready to blow out the seat of my pants. I better just sit there and crap my seat?

I don't think so......this is going just too far. Now I'm not implying that this is the situation in the real news story, but what is a person suppose to do in a bathroom emergency? Take out a barf bag and pull your drawers down and try to crap in the bag?

Now, I have seen passengers on flights that just refused to follow the instructions for staying in seats. On the other hand, exactly where do you draw the line?

This guy was a troublemaker.

Gestapo tactics aside, that's how I read into this guy's intentions, too. He appeared to be intentionally planning to break the rules. Foul on both sides -- the marshals should have just tied him up alone with the 'thumbs up' companion.

Well, the courts will have fun now.
