Why don't they put it in clear plastic and seal it? Then it won't rip, but can still be seen.

This flag issue really is just the tip of the iceberg. These IOC people are like communist dictators without a country. I'm from Georgia and you wouldn't believe all the crap we had to put up with for the 96 games.

Haven't they heard of needle and thread, let alone industrial strength sewing machines? Fix it as much as neccessary. What a bunch of Maroons.

Yeah, your right.
The IOC isn't really much different from the UN.
But from what I've read the UN is totally deluded, the IOC is totally corrupt.
Correct me if I'm wrong but "I hate America" seems to seems to be a common theme.

Hopefully this flag will be protected for history. Put it in one of the Smithsonian museums and keep it safe for future generations to see and revere.

"They wanted to carry the flag DURING the opening procession." Thanx for the clarification.
Perhaps after all, they should carry it during the opening procession.
They should pull a Mel Gibson by pushing aside the blue blazered IOC puke that will undoubtedly be keeping a watchful eye on them and run him through. Then carry old Glory to the front of the line.

Source, Flag FAQ on cleaning and serviceabilityIt depends on the material, but in general either Dry Cleaning or a washing machine are both fine. Remember: By law, respect for the flag means keeping it looking like a "fitting emblem" of the United States. That means keeping it clean and in good repair. (It is also OK to repair a flag as long as the repair is not noticeable.)
From what I can gather, flag repair these days doesn't seem recommended, proper ceremonial disposal and replacement of the flag is what most places suggest.

Wow, so nice of them to be concerned...(barf)
Shouldn't whomever owns the flag decide if it's to delicate to fly?

I guess the winds at Yankee Stadium weren't as brisk in November. Either that or the Yankees didn't ask the IOC for permission.

The tattered flag recovered from the
World Trade Center flies proudly over Yankee Stadium.

I dont know why they couldnt take two pieces of
plexiglass encase the flag in it and hang it from the
side of the tower and light that bad boy up with one
of the dozens of spot lights flashing all over the sky
here. After the 1 BILLION already spent, that would
be pocket change. Image the effect...

Better safe than sorry. It is bitterly cold here and windy. Who knows what the conditions will be like tomorrow evening?

We might be torn and battered like that flag, but we are not defeated. GOD BLESS AMERICA. Well of course not. It was only one terrorist attack. One hundred attacks would not break Americas will, just strengthen its resolve. We are not torn and battered, just a little sore after a workout at the gym.
God did bless America, we prayed as a nation, then we destroyed a nation with two lost. I wonder, did America THANK GOD as a nation? Or like ungrateful children did we forget? If we did, I did not see that on TV, like I saw the prayers for his blessing. I think we did not get the message, this may cause another message in the future.
Face it, we either live by the Grace of God, or live without. Can't have it both ways.

Quite frankly I'm glad they are not going to fly the WTC flag all during the Olympics. It's too precious to Americans to take a chance on it being damaged in the weather. AND, I personally don't want it associated with the IOC in any way. It's ours and should remain just the way it is - tears and all.

Post # 1 Shut them down!!! Agreed. Shut them down. I won't be watching one second of the Olympics, and if I stumble upon one of its advertisers I will go out of my way to avoid buying any products or services of those advertisers.
