This is the THIRD incident in the last 10 days! The other one was the guy who got away at the airport with those explosive substances on his shoes! I'm having an anxiety attack.

Well maybe, HOPEFULLY people here will wake up and we'll get tougher security. You're right. There's been MORE than 3 incidents in 10 days.

I'm having anxiety here...

I don't know what a barrel bomb is. I was just typing what they quoted the police saying it was.

It's a 10,000-pound bomb that soaks everything in a 600-yard radius with beer.

Just a guess, but there may be some anti-gay people that feel the courage to outwardly do something.

Courage? To me it seems like a cowardly action all around.

From KCBS

Suspicious Package Found at SF Federal Building Source: kcbs Publication date: 2002-02-07 (KCBS) – A suspicious package has been discovered at the Federal Building in San Francisco. Preliminary reports indicated that the building was being evacuated, but KCBS reporter George Harris on the scene said it does not appear that way. Some people leaving the building told Harris they were being turned away, after trying to enter, but he has not found anyone who was asked to leave after entering. The suspicious package was discovered on a loading dock on Larkin. Thousands of people work in the Federal building. The bomb squad is currently investigating the package.

Supposing San Fran is a target, one wonders what they'd be after.

Several possibilities:

1. Golden Gate Bridge
2. Disrupt international flights forpeople headed to the Olympics
3. An actual attack on an international flight
4. TransAmerica Tower
5. Gorby's think tank (at the Presidio, right?)

At any rate, if the idea is to attack San Fran, a good way to start would be to put the cops on pins and needles, spread them out, and then hit where they're not.

Too many incidents in the past week: SF airport possible shoe bomber, the buzziing of the GGB...

This was how I heard that there was no air cover. They had to scramble fighter jets from down around L.A.

I would think that of all cities (after NYC, WA D.C., Chicago, and L.A.) that San Francisco would be getting air cover. That must mean that no one other than those four have it.

Actually they did cover it from Travis AFB (in Fairfield). They were there in under 2 mins flying @ 500 mph.

Still the explanation for the "buzzing" was never made publicly clear; supposedly soomeone just taking photos. I think in this area, the last thing politicians want is a public demanding answers, for all of their moaning and groaning about Sunshine laws.

Furthermore, Hamilton AFB in Novato was closed, making the area closest to the Bay more vulnerable.

An attack on the Bay Bridge would have a more disruptive effect than an attack on the Golden Gate.

You're right, physicist. That was the wrong word to use.

There does seem to be a lot of terroristic activity out there.

Someone earlier remarked about the fear of PC retaliation.

Could terrorists be practicing for taking out the weakest link ... everyone afraid to do anything for fear of being labeled homophobic or something?

It might just be a trash barrel that turned over. Yesterday in Hartford, a chunk of the city was locked down because a couple of people saw a cameraman shooting a commercial on a rooftop near the Capitol, whom they mistook for a man with a machinegun.

An attack on the Bay Bridge would have a more disruptive effect than an attack on the Golden Gate.

This hits a little to close to home... Civic Center where the Fed bldg, hall of justice and City hall are is about 3 blocks away from my house... Bay Bridge is directly above my office. I made a post the other day about a suspicious plane flying circles around one of the Bay bridge towers, yet most people here thought I was just being paranoid. Now I'm starting to wonder.

We work in the same area. I'm just up the street next to the Gap headquarters. It is kind of scarey.

That's my point! The weakest link in this area is the balnket label of "tolerance." We are not being asked to be tolerant of another's God-given skin color or right to exist in a free world. No, what we are asked to tolerate is aberrant, sometimes illegal, behavior in the name of some misguided notion of "fairness."

This fear of labels causes polliticians to refrain from speaking the truth and implement the laws that would protect us. Instead we have Bozzo Boxer running to microphones to destroy the HONEST President who genuinely wants to protect our country.

I would not be surprised in the least to hear of further incidents in the Bay Area. The only surprise is that these incidents are covered by the local media.
