BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Argentine authorities detained a passenger aboard a United Airlines jetliner Thursday after he tried to enter the cockpit during a flight from Miami, officials and the airline said. The unidentified passenger was restrained by the plane's crew and later arrested by police after the flight landed as scheduled in Buenos Aires, the Argentine capital, said Jorge Reta, an Air Force spokesman. Authorities did not identify the passenger, but local reports said the man was reportedly a Uruguayan citizen. United Airlines said it had notified local authorities and the FBI about the incident. In a statement, United said flights to and from Argentina would continue as scheduled. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright 2002 The Associated Press. Look for Mr. Moreira to file suit against the United co-pilot for "profiling."

Bush & Co

were responsible for the insane ruling that pilots can have access to a crash axe, but not nail clippers or a pocket knife. Bush43 is a darn sight better than X42, but he's far from perfect. I voted for him, (or at least against algore) and I reserve the right to verbally pummel him when his administration does something stupid. Most of what passes for "airline security", as mandated by the FAA, goes 'way beyond mere stupidity.

I guess we could always retrofit relief tubes into the cockpit (hey, it works for the military) but what would we do for female flight crew members?

Once again, modern science and the free enterprise system answer the call (of nature):

I'm still under the impression, due to the live interview with a passenger who was there, that the bottom half of the door was kicked in...

I concur with you however, that if that door was intact and opened...whoever opened it should be fired.

I'm gonna have to ask my neighbor if this was her daughter or son-in-law...they are both captains for UA...and they are based out of San Fran. She has told me that both of them said if anyone tried to get into the cockpit they'd knock the $%^#& out them with the axe. Hmmmmm.

I envision a great political cartoon or Photoshopped photo. Axes of Good (firefighters wielding their axes) versus the Axis of Evil (Iran, Iraq, and North Korea). Sounds like a job for Registered, or someone else who possesses the talent for graphics that I utterly lack.

Just kill the guy the next time it happens, m'kay people?

I'm sure that would be OK with the crew as long as YOU get to clean up the mess.

Well, according to the article I just read, there was a lot of blood involved even though the perp was hit "bluntly" rather than "sharply".

I say, go for "sharply" every time. I'll bring lots of peroxide for the carpet.
