Well, if I said yes, you might say something different than what I was thinking. What do you have to say about it?

How do you avoid being spotted by FLIR from a platform you can't see or hear?

Asked when was the last time the U.S. had information indicating bin Laden was alive, Tenet declined to give a public response. "I'd be happy to talk about all of this in closed session," he told the panel.

In the last several months we've heard this question asked a hundred times of various people in the administration. But this is the first time I've heard one of them flat-out refuse to answer publicly. What's changed? Does this mean they finally have an answer? I hope so, and I hope we finally got the SOB.

Well a drager rebreather and 33 feet has always been my prefered method........

Jamming the intended frequency may or may not create havoc in the controls of such a tool. Individual commands are surely encrypted but the flooding of the area with a powerful signal would be pounced on in a New York minute IMHO by EC-130's etc etc

Best defense IMHO is not to piss of the USA in the first place :o) .......maybe a few false flags for laser guided munitions to divert to ?!?!? heck I don't really know fer sure TM, I'm just doing the SWAG thang !

Stay Safe !

Nah, I probably just read you wrong the first time. It sounded like you might be just learning about the CIA (not just what they are up to lately).

"How do you avoid being spotted by FLIR from a platform you can't see or hear? "

Take out the satellite system used to communicate with the aircraft (CONUS); attack the CCS within the FOA; destroy it in route of delivery; laz it; etc. Adds more work to war,but all technologies are easy enough to overcome. The good news is that your attackers are relying on something they do not fully control.

"...drager...and 33 feet..."

There's a few special surprizes for those folks. Best just to get rid of the pests. Besides, we've been bombing sand lately. Not much water to hide in.

It was interesting that Tenet hesitated and stumbled when testifying before congress when asked why we failed to get a spy into Bin Laden's inner circle. Odds are that finding him will require a turncoat in his camp combined with a surprise attack. Perhaps that is what we are seeing here?

I don't know. Lockheed developed a "stealth" UAV but it was not armed. I suspect that armed UAVs are highly classified and you would need to be involved to know something about them.

I was thinking more in terms of countermeasures to be used by a guerrilla group in the field, not a military capable of going toe to toe in the ECM arena with Uncle Sam.

I mean how do you hide from FLIR? Space blankets, what?

FLIR? Anything. It can only see to a point of plane, meaning it cannot see through glass or fog, even though visible light passes through. A well constructed ghillie does the trick. A simple white smoke generator can conceal movement if you need to split. From the sky, this is more difficult, but hiding under trees, bushes, and behind rocks works well due to visual angles. Movement under the watch of Predator requires skill, but can be done with limited risk with practice and education on what FLIR can actually see. The radar systems are more complicated to overcome. They see the metal in your ammo, rifle, and mags. So far, the only radar out there can detect a human, but within a few years itmight very well be able to distinguish between an AR and an AK.

If the Serbs who field T-55s can go toe to toe with us than we are sadder than I previously thought. If I remember right the Serbs wacked a few unmanned vehicles so I think they had it down how to initiate offensive action against them, that being the key according to Clausewitz. If we put radar on these babies then we might as well put those signs on them that say, "Just shoot me down." We are just lucky that we are facing a bunch of primitives that cannot grasp the concept of Western war, and as you have said before we can just keep chasing them down with a persistent effort.
