What is the difference between alternating and direct current anyway? I always wanted to know that.

Ooh! Ooh! I know! I know!
Direct current flows from negative to positive and that's it.
Alternating current reverses polarity or direction 60 times per second. Thus house current is 120 volts AC 60Hz (cycles per second).
Class dismissed and don't forget to read chapters 3 and 4 in your Gruyere cheese recipe books! There will be a test tomorrow.
