Gray "Dim-Bulb" Davis Took $119,000 from Enron!
Fox News | 02-05-2002 | Brit Hume Special Report

Posted on 02/05/2002 2:50:57 PM PST by Henchster

Brit Hume just had a report on "Special Report" about Gray Davis (California governor) taking over $119,000 from Enron, more than anyone in Congress!

He showed a clip of Dim-bulb getting grilled by reporters on the State Capitol steps, and he was losing his temper as he stated that he has stopped taking contributions from energy companies since he became governor. He refuses to return the money.

I haven't seen ONE ad yet.

Of course, maybe it's because I only watch Fox News.

GRAY MEETS LAY...Email the following text to your preferred radio host!!!

Davis Conferred With Enron's CEO During State Energy Crisis Policy: Governor says he met with Lay over several months at the request of Clinton and Bush administrations but ultimately took none of his advice.

By DAN MORAIN, TIMES STAFF WRITER

SACRAMENTO -- Gov. Gray Davis conferred with then-Enron Chairman Kenneth Lay roughly half a dozen times last year when the Houston energy trader was riding high and California was mired in its energy crisis, but ultimately took none of his advice, the governor said in an interview Friday.

Davis made the comments as Enron struggles to emerge from bankruptcy, and as its influence on President Bush's energy policy has become the focus of various investigations. Davis added his voice earlier this week to demands for an investigation into Enron's impact on the California energy crisis.

The question of Davis' contacts with Lay surfaced Friday night in a broadcast of the PBS show "Now With Bill Moyers." The segment focused on Lay's influence on the Bush energy policy and with administration officials. But in an interview taped last spring for a Frontline/New York Times co-production by investigative journalist Lowell Bergman, Lay said he also had contact with the Clinton administration and with Davis. At the time, the Democratic governor publicly was labeling Texas energy companies as gougers and pirates.

Ed. Gray Davis received $119,000 in contributions from Enron.

Regretably thats been the time proven case. I feel badly for California residents because ultimatley they will bear the pain for idiotic political decisions. Started with Wilson and quasi dereg, continued and exacerbated by Daivs for refusing to pass on high prices, for political gain.

I'm in the oil & gas exploration business and saw graphically what went on in CA. Michigan prices for nat gas, while still historically high, were 50% less than prices we got for CA sales.

"...he stated that he has stopped taking contributions from energy companies since he became governor...

He was elected governor in 1998. Look at the 'Common Cause' list of contributions in 1999-2000.

Did he lie or just misspeak?

You hit the nail on the head. I hope Californians can get the true deregulation accomplished. No reason to be looking down the barrel waiting for the next hammer to fall, which could happen as early as this winter or next fall.

I saw some early encouraging signs when power plants were built, but lately I've seen several that were put on hold or canceled for the ridiculous reasons of old.

See 'Common Cause' link --

Will Davis be facing another 'power shortage' come election time?

I am sure that Gov Davis used the money in the best and highest way so that it benefited the people of California. I am also sure that Gov Davis would not provide any quid pro quo for such contributions. (/sarcasm)

By the way what does Congressmen Waxman have to say about this? Nothing???? Oh, I forgot, Democrats are not to be bound by the rules they hold Republicans to, because Democrats are good people who care!

".... it turned out that local "PUBLIC" power companies like Los Angeles Power & Light were charging MORE for the sale of their excess power than any private company was. "

You remember right. The biggest "price gougers", by far, were the LA WPD and BC Hydro.

One the list of approximately a dozen accused "gougers", Enron was next to last -- with only 5-6% of the total MW under dispute and the second lowest price/MW.

For whatever reason, Enron was a marginal player in the Cal Power Crisis. But was nonetheless chosen to star in the companion feature: The Great PR War To Save Gov. Davis' Political Butt.

"Did he lie or just misspeak?"

Simple. Every time he opens his mouth he LIES, and everything he says is a LIE.

He took the money after he LIED to us that he wouldn't and he's a LIAR when he says he stopped taking money from energy companies.

He'll be LYING tomorrow when he LIES and says he didn't LIE to us yesterday, and he'll be LYING when he LIES that he didn't LIE when he LIED while promising not to take any more energy money.

I feel like I am the only one Enron didn't give money to.

...well, I didn't get any $$ from them either. But I did get Gray-Out Davis' rate increase, and gray outs.

"He was elected governor in 1998. Look at the 'Common Cause' list of contributions in 1999-2000."

Bush, of course, took political contributions from Enron. And, when they were about to go in the tank, look what it got them -- nothing. Consequently, Bush can make the legitimately contend that he's clean.

Davis can make much the same claim. Enron gave him political contributions and, in return, he bought copious amounts of power from them. Then...he stiffed 'em.
