Just because there are links on the internet to other works does not mean this one is current. It does not make it breaking news just because YOU found it today either. It also, certainly does NOT indicate anyone is committing this attrocity in Salt Lake as if it were "breaking news," today.
Even if the book were still in print, it was copyrighted back in 98, still four years ago, and it has not had a new copyright issued for the old title since then
Regardless, the 1998 date on the internet version still disqualifies this as breaking news, unless there is hitherto unreleased information regarding a sexual practice taking place in Salt Lake City today by this doctor or atheletes and coaches under his care.
Even the year 2001, would not classify this as a breaking news post, unless somebody related to the story got caught today.
Perhaps you should update your calendar settings.
Give it a break, no matter what you do or what you say, this is NOT breaking news, though it may be interesting to discuss. Of course there is NO evidence that anyone has ever done such a thing either now is there. Or do you have some specific allegations to make against a specific coach?
I didn't think so. It's just another bait thread.
Only in the minds of those who by practice regularly violate the declared purpose of the sidebar marked "breaking news."
Just HOW is this breaking news?
You have certain knowledge of this? As of now, I can't show you much of anything, of course. I will after digging a couple days more :). If the practice is there, it's findable.
Sigh. Here's your own words. And don't forget the "nutso" part.
the guy is an "out of print" doctor
Also, the book isn't "out of print". It's an e-book. With an ISBN number. Perhaps you should get a grip on the intricacies of publishing, books, journals and the like before you put the other foot in your mouth?
And I used to think that those crotch shots during the ice skating finals were the highlights of the Olympic's. This is gotta be a stretch of someone's twisted imagination!
Huh?? Articles on medicine are "sordid works"? I'm sort of surprised here having never frequented the abortion/pro-life/pro-choice threads much. Oh well, I guess you can tell me what's "sordid" about this guy's work, then?
Personally, I'm more of a traditionalist. What that means here is that I think sports in the U.S., and a lot of other countries, have gotten out of hand. Something is wrong when supposed "amateur" athletes care so much for winning as to adopt such a soul-destroying practice.
As to how to stop this, well, it can't be done right away. However, one small step is for people reading this to stop regarding the Olympic movement as a just object of charity. If there was a lot less money, few Olympians could engage professional coaches or spend periods of time many months long in full-time training. As for college sports, they should be run, as in nineteenth century America, as a student activity without full-time staff. Any athlete who profits from their sport, or who is significantly helped by staff who profit from their sport, should lose their amateur status. If amateur sport was truly a hobby and not a vocation, few would risk their bodily health with steriods and virtually no one would risk their spiritual health with the degenerate practice documented in this thread.
As to how to achieve this nirvana, well, I would look to gradual moral suasion, not the law.
YOU strain at a gnat and missed the point on purpose. On purpose of course. YOU know this book is NOT breaking news. The quotes from newspapers are years old. NOBODY is alleged to have done this today, it is NOT breaking news. It's just more "we are so immoral" stuff from the typical sensationalist "chicken little's" to feed on.
Regarding the minutea of the postings here perhaps you too could "get a grip." Tens of thousands of ISBN's and SAN's and LOC numbers are issued every year... to thousands of publishers and authors. The more they issue the older, out-of-date this publication is in relation.
I realize I said the doctor is out of print. I mistyped, and I thought it was pretty understandable, his book is in not really in print as we understand the term... What he wrote in this book on the internet is NOT available in printed format at your local college campus bookstore.
Is that better for you sherlock? Does that now make it breaking news. Does that make this 1998?
I give up. Enjoy your "chicken little dance," I will try to remember the sky is falling for you, even when it isn't for the rest of us.
Where did I "encourage folks" to post as "breaking news"?
HOWEVER it would NOT change the actual copyright date of the four year old material now would it?
You seem to have some kind of exotic mental problem. Just exactly what are you trying in this confused way to say?
What he wrote in this book on the internet is NOT available in printed format at your local college campus bookstore.
It is available on every campus workstation. Can you grok it, Sherlock?
Geez. I consider myself finished with this discussion with you - I could just as well be talking to an aardvark ;).
Too late. In China, they make soup. They say first born males are the best. They sell by the jar. No joke.
They say they are healthy, and because their "mothers" often eat the afterbirth , the unborn are just as good. If you wish more info, I'm sure a search engine would bring it right up for you.
