then he was a hero

I don't see him as a hero. I see him as a press member who gambled for a story, and lost.

Man, this is exactly what the tin-pot dictator Musharaff has been saying all along to his people. Does anyone remember his first news conference? He said we should side with American like Mohammed (the child rapist) sided with the Jews only to defeat them later. He said this in Urdu, but was translated by FoxNews. We are making a gargantuan mistake by trusting Muslims.

I agree with you. I, for one, am gratefful for the risks journalists take so that light can shine on parts of the world that would much prefer to operate in darkness.

If you willingly fly a commercial airplane in America and terrorists kidnap you and/or kill you, should the government come and get you? Yes or no?

YES. BUT, if you chose to fly the plane without passengers into a terrorist territory by your own free will, NO.

In recent weeks, anthrax has been a realistic threat to postal workers. If a mailman gets anthrax and dies, should we praise him and his life for doing his job regardless of the risks he took or should we just say he 'gambled to get out the stupid mail, he should have been a quitter, he knew the risks, he lost, too bad'?

The various responses to this "news" are all over the place. I am happy that those that voice extreme views are not in charge right now.

President Bush and his team seem to know what to do, and I will allow them the time to do it.

If this news is true, then it just one more verification that those that are making war against the United States do no understand us, or the changes that have occured since 9-11.

They will do what they have to do, and we will do what we have to do. I just wonder if in a moment of reflection if they ever wonder if they may have gone too far?

"I mean just a because a foolish man knowingly risks his life"

Foolish? He was a journalist doing his job. It can be a dangerous job but he knew the risks and was willing to take them, just like a soldier, a firefighter, or even a window washer. Is everyone with a dangerous job foolish?

I agree nukes are a ridiculous solution, but the poor guy could be dead. Would be nice to show a little respect.

If this is indeed true ... the longer we hold those barbarians at Guanatanamo, the more kidnappings like this will occur.

If I were a mailman during the anthrax scare, I'd schedual my vacation. I wouldn't CHOSE to take a chance. I have kids. The mail would have to wait. The welfare checks would be late.
Once the area was declared safe, I'd go back.

There are terrorists right here in America, the risk is here everyday for those pilots.

As far as the journalist, we were his 'passengers' and our tickets were paid for with the 'freedom of the press'.

BINGO! If he had obtained the scoop and gotten out to tell a story of daring risk to his colleagues, THEN he would be called a hero! (the crown that Geraldo wanted to wear...)

The trap that caught him had an element of genius about it. The news outlets have a lot of sympathy for a captured colleague... and their sympathetic coverage could have had an impact on public opinion. But I laugh when I think that one of their demands was the release of GITMO prisoners.

They would have had a better chance at removing "S" from the alphabet.

Atlea*t that'* the way I *ee it.

As has been said on many of the talk shows:

"NOT ALL MUSLIMS ARE TERRORISTS, BUT

ALL TERRORISTS ARE MUSLIMS."

Yes, that's why the tight airline security, and the right of pilots to bare arms. Some people complain that security is destroying their freedoms. To do what? Die?

The thing about terrorism is that there is no time when it's "safe". The 9/11 victims thought it was safe to go to work at the Towers that day. If another attack occurs, I'll bet the next victims would have thought they we going to be 'safe' too :-(

"I give up. A human life is valuable...no matter what"

I agree. I don't understand the people who say that it is too dangerous for our military to go after the terrorists when that is their job, what they were trained to do? I guess we should all just stay home, lock our doors, and hope the scum leave us alone?
