A caller on Fox this morning said that President Bush should send out one of the airplanes that can drop a daisycutter bomb, and say that if Pearl is killed, the bomb will be dropped on those terrorists heads. Sounds good to me.

We don't stuff grenades up your *ss and then hunt down and kill every relative out to your 22nd times removed cousin so that every trace of your families existence is wiped from the earth for all time.
This is truly the only way to negotiate with terrorists.

If Powell made a decision, that might be a first. Then too, it may be among his last-but no, his presence serves a purpose. They won't can him.

I just heard it reported again and there's been no word of a further extension. But they have to know that they will accomplish nothing by following through on their threat. Maybe they will let him escape.

Perfect. I think that is the perfect deal. Release the hostage and we promise to not immediately remove from the planet the cancer that you and your kind are.

If they kill the reporter we should shoot DEAD every Paki at X-ray... next ? I'd like to know if anyone ever kidnapped anyone of Osama's people? I'd be willing to bet this hasn't ever happened. Osama has advised his minions to devise methods of torture so horrific that men lose control of their bodily functions at the sight of them.
Sounds like a lesson we should learn and put to use.

Either way it is a peculiar statement to say the least and I hope someone is paying attention to it. Yes, I hope so, too. It sounded kind of odd to me. I don't think I've read whether the message arrived in English or not. Anybody know?

The statement must have arrived in English, otherwise the WSJ wouldn't have bothered writing "Amereeka" and would have gone straight to a properly spelled translation.

Now the news is saying that they have extended the deadline. Are they talking about the first extension, or have they made a second extension?

"Now the news is saying that they have extended the deadline. Are they talking about the first extension, or have they made a second extension?"They have made a "second extension". They have nothing to gain, and everything to lose. IMHO, anyway. All they will do if they kill Danny Pearl is bring out the wrath of the American people....again. We're in no mood for that crap.
Can you say "DAISYCUTTER"? I knew you could!! LOL!!!!

You're probably right. It still seems a little strange, though. I'm sure the kidnappers would know the correct spelling of the name of the Great Satan. Why did they spell it that way, I wonder? Sounds almost like a parody of a Pakistani accent. Curiouser and curiouser.

The other messages arrived in dari and some other language, I believe. These I'm not so sure of. If these are in English, perhaps they are making the reporter himself do the writing, and he is ...
I'm not going to say and no one else should either, for his sake.

Maybe they really didn't know how to spell it. You've seen their protest rally signs. They write English like idiots.

It's past the extension given. They don't plan on killing him (although that wouldn't comfort his family at all I know). I think/hope they do like the Al-Qaeda/Taliban did the three women in Afghanistan and leave them somewhere and run like he**! !
To: DJ88
You should be grateful that we don't have that idiot running the State Department anymore. Stop bitching about what you do/don't like about everything, and get a grip. It's ALWAYS been our policy that we don't negotiate with kidnappers or terrorists. It never was and never will be Colin Powell's decision. What idiot do you refer to--Halfbright? If so, I am indeed thankful that State is no longer in her hands. I seem to recall that she made a case for the world being a safer place if only Red China had nuclear ICBM technology. (A terrible thing to accuse someone of--my apologies if my recollection is wrong.)
My comment regarding Powell was meant in the sense that I appreciate that he finally took a firm and righteous stand on an issue. Per your comment, yes, it would have been hard for him to do otherwise, but this is the guy who thought it looked bad to kill combative Iraqis a decade ago, who thinks we should be nice to Iraqis today, who thinks that building coalitions is more important than attaining military objectives, and who thinks that members of al Qaeda are somehow deserving of coverage by the Geneva Conventions. He's also supportive of affirmative action. As much as I'd really like to like him, there's an awful lot to dislike that just can't be ignored.
I choose to continue to exercise my God-given right to bitch on FR, thank you--early and often, if need be.
