Davis is not worse on all four. Davis is just as inclined to increase entitlements, ElkGroveDan. Riordan is so bad that there is no need to make it any worse than it actually is LOL!

Riordan has said that health care is a God-given right that everyone should have legal or illegal? That sounds worse than Hillary Clinton.

And don't forget his promise to "embarrass" the White House into funding his health care projects.

And is it better to advance that cause incrementally or to die on your sword?

Die by the sword all the way! Sure, after Dan Lungren's debacle in 1998, some people may view running for Governor as a conservative as the Picket's Charge of California Politics. But leadership, at least as I see it, is pointing in the right direction and inspiring people to lead you.

In a way, this reminds me of a story I once made up about a pack of hungry wolves and a flock of sheep. In the day, the sheep were well guarded by sheep herders armed with AK-47s. But at night, they were left alone in the pen. The wolves decided the only way to enjoying a leg of mutton would be to sneak into the flock dressed as a sheep in the day, and then at night, after the sheep-guards were gone, throw open the gate and let the wolves in.

So a wolf named Dick Riordan was selected to infiltrate the sheep herd. But since he looked like a wolf, they had to dress him like a sheep. First they put the heavy wool coat, for the outer disguise, which also weighed him down, so he was quite slow like a sheep. Then they filed down his teeth, so his sharp fangs wouldn’t scare the sheep. Finally they fixed his tongue, so he could only “baaaa” like a sheep.

At last Dick took off to get in the pen, saying, “Don’t worry guys, I’ll get in and then we’ll be racking up the racks of lamb!”

Dick snuck into the herd and then was rounded into the pen as nightfall approached. After the guards left he signaled to his final. Dick looked at his snarling wolf buddies on the other side of the fence, licking their lips in anticipation of sheep burgers and sheep steaks. But as he headed to the fence, he caught his own reflection in a pool of water. “Holy RINOs Batman!” he said. “I look like a sheep and talk like a sheep and if I let those snarling wolves in, the wackier ones like Gary Bauer and Pat Buchanan are going to eat me like a sheep!”

So Dick Riordan didn’t let the other wolves in and they never got to eat any sheep. The end.

If we nominate someone who is unelectable in the general election, what have we succeeded at?

That depends on the definition of "we". If it's a political party (ie, the Republicans), your whole world is about winning elections. If you're, say, a conservative, it's about having conservative policies implemented. Electing a liberal republican does not help in that case, and actually makest things worse.

I understand the desire to stay ideologically pure. But if the majority of the voters in a state don't agree with the ideologically pure on certain issues, isn't it a bit smarter to get half our agenda than none at all?

I think that's what we're getting with Simon. Now, don't misunderstand me, I'm going to vote for the guy, and help the campaign any way I can, but that's not to say that he's exactly "ideologically pure". I think that Simon is in fact the pragmatic, practical, electable choice, and along with that, the ideas that he's advancing are moving in the right direction. But he's no ideologue.

This is about winning an election, isn't it? (I'm beginning to wonder)

Yes and no. Winning with Riordan isn't really winning. Simon can win the primary if the conservative vote isn't split. After that, I still think that he has a good chance in the general against Davis and even if the general does not go our way, we (conservatives) are better off than with a Riordan win. At least, in that case, there will still be a party that at least pretends to listen to us, whereas with Riordan, that will be the swan song for anyone to the right of Ted Kennedy.

Oh, and by the way, Riordan has promised to use the power of the state to further erode (or downright elminate) your second amendment rights. And to "respect" the right to kill an unborn child. And to continue to pour money into the failed public school system. And to ignore the flood of illegal aliens that is destroying this state. Need I go on?

I think you've bought into the media/Dem line that pro-lifers can't win in CA. It's a myth, the majority of people who vote on the issue are prolife. Davis will not win or lose because of his opponent's position on abortion. As the incumbent, Davis is the one who needs to prove he deserves another term -- something he has thus far been unable to do. The GOP nominee's conservative credentials will only be important because it will determine how much he'll be able to energize the GOP base.

Doesn't it scare you that Riordan is WORSE than Davis on all four of your issues?

This state cannot survive another Governor with the managerial skills of Graypout davis!!!

"I think you've bought into the media/Dem line that pro-lifers can't win in CA."

Do I detect a little cynicism in your post? Me thinks you don't appreciate the great advise given by Dan, Sam, and the boys to the GOP...Don't you know they have our best interests at heart...Barf
