Here's the way to look at it:

Ashcroft essentially took the entire federal income tax payment of TWO hardworking middle-class families to order draperies, thus satisfying his own personal inclinations.

In other words, two families were deprived of a replacement car, appliances, clothes, tuition money, food or anything else you can imagine because John Ashcroft is a prude.

Ha! how much more support could we have given her?! I voted for her as a loyal Republican and so did a lot of others. But, I think her demeanor did her in. I'm quite sure that many people thought that this lady was going to "change their life significantly" if elected. Sorry, there wasn't a spot on the ballot for Patron Saint. Needless to say, she drove the bus off a cliff and we took another pounding in this state.

I argued passionately for Ashcroft's confirmation when it seemed he was being pilloried. Though having seen his overall performance so far, now capped by this, he is wearing thin rapidly.
