JUSTICE COVERS 'NUDE' STATUES
DRUDGE ^

Fed up with having his picture taken during events in the Justice Department's Great Hall in front of semi-nude statues, Attorney General John Ashcroft has reportedly ordered massive draperies to conceal the offending figures -- which have been displayed since the 1930s!
The draperies were installed last week at a cost of just over $8,000, reports ABCNEWS.com's Beverley Lumpkin.
At the center of the controversy: two enormous and stylized but largely naked aluminum statues.
The female figure represents the Spirit of Justice; the male on the right is the Majesty of Justice. The male is clad in only a cloth draped over his essential parts; the female wears a sort of toga-style garment, but one breast is entirely exposed.
Last November, during a press conference announcing new challenges of fighting terrorism, Ashcroft was photographed with the naked breast right over his shoulder!
The snap ran in major papers.

Why is any other good Christain damaging their faith by standing in the same position?

You said they/media found Clinton's sex amusing. At the time he was up for Impeachment and claimed he didn't have sex in order to avoid the scandal.
To: Central Scrutiniser
I'd laugh at him if he were liberal, libertarian, green, reform, conservative, communist etc...its not his political leanings that are funny its his action, and I think he blew it Go ahead and laugh. I don't think that matters to him. Sure it might matter to those who follow Jay Leno or Dave Letterman or South Park for leadership, but I don't think Ashcroft cares about that.
Give em hell John.

"My wife's are about here, so she said the statue had to go."
To: Dane
How would you react in being Ashcroft's place?
Me, I would make a joke about it the next time I spoke and move on. There's nothing like laughing with the person who is trying to mock you to dampen their effect. If he had done that I can see it being mentioned on the funny segment of Brit Hume's show, but the cover thing is even more rediculous and warrents a whole skit on SNL.
If it's true, that is :)

Sorry, I'm just not following. Probably because it's the end of Monday. Perhaps I've not been clear. I'm a Big John fan. I like his intelligence, integrity, values and faith. I think he's doing a nice job. He doesn't give a press conference like Rummy, but right now Rummy's in a class of his own.
To: CyberAnt
Sorry. I must have confused the point since the first half of your statement was about the statue.
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
If it's true, he's nuts. This is also public (taxpayer's) property, and he has no arbitrary right to alter it.
I argued passionately for Ashcroft's confirmation when it seemed he was being pilloried. Though having seen his overall performance so far, now capped by this, he is wearing thin rapidly.

There are just some folks who think that nudity, in and of itself, is obscene. I disagree though. Nudity is nothing evil, though -- it's 100% natural. Americans tend to be puritanical and very uncomfortable with nudity in general. I don't understand why, but they just are.
So tell me who's more sexually moral? A person who is comfortable with the naked human body as God made it and does not equate nudity with lust, or someone who's on the verge of "pitching a tent" at the sight of a metal breast?
To: Lazamataz
I can understand not wanting to have a right breast over your shoulder in photograph after photograph. However, it seems moving down the hall or something would have been a lot easier.

What everyone seems to have overlooked is that it's not just JA that is 'offended' by this statue -- hardcore feminists don't like the statue either -- some consider it degrading or even offensive. Really? Who?
Do you have a link?

How much time did Clinton spend inside the White House with his pants off and who in the media made a big deal out of that? Answers:
1. Lots of time. He lived there for eight years, don'tcha know. That means, among other things, he showered there.
(Nobody knows how much time he spent with his pants off at inappropriate times. Considering that the "act" doesn't take incredibly long...probably not much time, at all.)
2. "Who in the media made a big deal out of that?" Are you kidding? Everybody. The Monica Mess was front-page news for at least a year. It's all that they were reporting on, half the time.
The anti-Clinton jihad is still "making a big deal out of that."
Ashcroft spends taxpayer money unwisely in pursuit of a silly Puritanical goal. His defenders, in response to the criticism, say:
So what? Clinton got a BJ in the White House!
Cheney won't give any info in response to a Congressional investigation into Enron and the Energy Task Force. His defenders, in response to the criticism, say:
So what? Clinton got a BJ in the White House!
Bush rolls back several pieces of environmental regulations. His defenders, in response to the criticism, say:
So what? Clinton got a BJ in the White House!
The anti-Clinton jihad really needs to come up with a new argument.

We went to Rome for 10 days on our second date, with one day out to Florence..... :o) ROME???? It's clear I don't know how to date. I think a movie and a pizza is a big deal.
Well, it is...but only if there's popcorn with the movie and the pizza has at least two toppings.
To: xzins
I hope you're correct about the second Amendment, but I have seen no evidence of his "brilliance". Was getting his butt kicked for the Senate, then couldn't cover against the dead guy's wife. All the evidence to me since shows quite the contrary.

Was getting his butt kicked for the Senate, then couldn't cover against the dead guy's wife. He was leading Gov. Carnahan at the time of the plane crash. The sympathy vote was VERY real. It made it nearly impossible for him to attack anything about her.
And don't forget the vote fraud in democratic areas.
I think part of why he became AG is because the fraud in Missouri was so evident.

What the statue needs is "a good Republican cloth coat", a $8,000 one to be exact. Lol, government at work.

Paid for by welfare dollars.

"Still, my point is, as stated above, I do not understand the mentality of someone who goes through all the work and trouble of creating a statue, and then deliberately decides to make it naked. Why? "
Some of us believe that the body is beautiful as God created it. It is a work of art. Still this is not a nude statue. Only one breast is shown. There is nothing sexy about these statues.
Still you are free to feel as you do, but most people do not find anything wrong with these statues. They belong to the people, not the current AG.
