Anti-American Dork of the Week Award: Robert Altman

Anti-U.S. director gone to pot

Now that Gosford Park director Robert Altman has proclaimed he would rather live in Britain than in the United States, Prince Charles might want to keep him away from his 17-year-old son Prince Harry, who confessed recently to some Clintonesque inhaling.

The 76-year-old Altman admits that he smokes pot daily. "I stopped drinking because of my heart," he told Britain's Telegraph. "At the end of the day, you want to have a laugh and sit down and smoke a joint, which I do every day of my life."

Altman made his true feelings about the United States clear to the Times of London. "When I see an American flag flying, it's a joke," he rants. "This present government in America I just find disgusting, the idea that George Bush could run a baseball team successfully -- he can't even speak! I just find him an embarrassment. I'd be very happy to stay in London. There's nothing in America that I would miss at all."

Gosford Park: "Robert Altman's latest is a British murder mystery satire that's drawn comparisons to Jean Renoir's classic Rules of the Game and Ten Little Indians, based on the novel by Agatha Christie. The scene is 1930s England, where an aristocratic family and their friends enjoy a hunting party weekend. But are there killers among them? The film features multiple storylines, showing the fairly boring lives of the rich and famous upstairs, and the more intriguing ones of the servants downstairs. "

Starring Bob Balaban, Kristin Scott Thomas, Jeremy Northam, Helen Mirren, Clive Owen, Maggie Smith, Stephen Fry, Emily Watson Directed by Robert Altman Written by Julian Fellowes Studio USA Films

The newspaper has printed photos of Altman - I don't know if they're recent; if they are, it sure looks like he doesn't care about his weight - my guess is that he's been substituting lots of Krispy Kreme D's in place of Jack Daniels.

Here's my $0.02 --> anyone that does drugs, they're losers.

It is amazing that he was so gutless as to omit his feelings about America recently in public pronouncements in the US, but did so out of the country last week.

Was on Golden Globes last week. His weight seems way up. Hadn't seen a shot of him for about 20 years.

PS: saw Jack Germond on C-SPAN yesterday. he look worse than ever. Couldn't sit up in the chair or close his shirt collar. Tie tied but couldn't bring the knot up to his neck.

Many people chose their own method of death. Just a slow suicide, but tastes good.

I wonder if the Gosford Park movie distributor/marketer will mind when no right-thinking Americans show up for this Altman bilge... With GWB's approval ratings around 85%, that might have an impact on this movie's reception by the public. Good riddance to all the Hollywood-types that echo Robert Altman Anti-Americanism.
