Senator Jesse Helms (Republican-NC) 'has steadfastly avoided taking sides' in past GOP primaries, but he 'is about to bend his rule some--if not outright break it.'
Helms is scheduled to address CPAC on 1/31, and he 'has invited Elizabeth Dole to introduce him.'
Helms apparently plans to 'lavish her with praise.'
Helm's spokesman Jimmy Broughton 'wouldn't say whether Helms plans to endorse Dole, suggesting: 'Stay Tuned.'
One of Dole's GOP rivals, atty Jim Snyder,: "All this pomp and circumstance is to expected for someone who's been in Washington for so long.'

Well sneakypete,
I've considered Independent also - if Dolt is the shoe-in with no regard to other candidates from RNC/NC-GOP - that just may seal it for me. To your second note - you're "preaching to the choir" when you say the RNC/NC-GOP cares little for NC - that's all too apparent especially for those of us who LIVE in NC and DO give a care. But Republican or not - I won't waste my vote on Dolt no matter how many Republican "leaders" endorse the pink elephant...

Pat DESERVED to be attacked for the isolationist idiot he is.
Now, Sneakypete, I won't be around to find out, and you MAY not be either, but I predict that in 2050, the "late" Pat Buchanan will be as prophetic as we now regard Frederich Hayek or George Orwell. Pat has the middle initial "J." It should stand for "Jeremiah," for he is a modern Jeremiah in a sea of nonbelievers.

But Elizabeth Dole in particular is extremely popular in North Carolina, HorseHillary! She only popular in the communist center part of the state, and even that is because she is from a rich pinko family that lives in that area. The old "local girl sleeps around until she makes good" thing.

I was shocked to be around to see 1970. As for the rest of it,it doesn't matter how long you wait, isolationism is a damn-fool idea. Pat may be right about some other things, but is stone-cold wrong about this.

Alas, as a conservative Copperhead, I have to agree with you. Just as the liberal contagion from New York's five boroughs overwhelmed Connecticut and New Jersey, it has spread to major urban areas in the south - parts of Florida, Charlotte, N.C., and Atlanta. Even as we write, colonists from the rotten apple who have immigrated to eastern Pennsylvania are going to bed early for their long commutes in the morning back to their homegrounds.
We should be able to ban immigration from the five boroughs to the rest of the country unless they have a visa and are card-carrying members of the NRA.

Pardon me, but many, many North Carolinians are not quite happy of having Dolt shoved in their face by NC-GOP/RNC...
