When the inevitable movie about the Caliban and his family is made, it should be titled "The Searchers."
Oh, never mind.

The provisos of the press are for contributing to the disharmony, not for the edification of the unenlightened. The placebo of prefacing people with labels, or lack thereof, is for the Common Good, lest peasants become People and begin to judge for themselves. I had to read this three times. The first was for meaning. The second was to make sure I had interpreted it correctly. The final time was in appreciation.
Beautiful work.

This contains some very good points. Everyone who is sensitive to media bias has noticed the method of setting up a desired reaction to a name being mentioned. Anna illustrates it very well here.
Oh, and thanks for the ping, Miz Merc.

Name dropping, the kind that's unfortunately more nefarious, either literally drops, as in fails to include, a disclaimer, or pops one in when none is needed. A kind of "just in case you the reader won't see this the way we do",Thanks for the flag, Merc!
And a bump for a well-written AnnaZ article.
It would be interesting to get A+Bert's critique on this premise.
(Heh, heh, heh! How's THAT for name dropping?)
To: Mercuria
Name dropping is normally meant to define the use of one's alleged nearness, dearness even, to someone oh-so-much more famous and fabulous, making the user oh-so-much more famous and fabulous by the association Is that how it works?
So one day I'm sitting in a restaurant, when who happens to drop by but my two personal friends MERCURIA and ANNAZ........

Gotta get to work BUMP for a later read!

The press is hard at work, inventing concepts that are 'appropriate' for mass consumption -- they use labels and buzzwords like bailing wire to package reality into politically acceptable 'bundles' of perception .
'Bailing wire' -- 'Haywire'. Nice piece. (Ping thanx)

The left wing ACLU lawyers work 24/7 to revise history with label changes.
99.99999% of the people they defend fall into a couple of categories.
The biggest category is the Anti America/American clown whose rights are more important than our country and our individual rights. These anti American clowns run from the Black Panthers, the SLA murderers and now the Jihad in America, murderers. These left wing ACLU lawyers do plastic surgery and left wing verbage to make these Anti American Clowns appear to be nice, innocent and well being Americans.
The next clown category is the black clown like Rodney King. If Rodney had been a white skin head, he would have been dispatched that night without a single outcry from the media! Je$$e and Al $harpton are the black clowns's five star poster guys!

Very, very nice. Hit the nail right on the head!
Thanks for the flag. Bump!
Exhibit B: Because it's just too good to pass up on...
U.S. President George W. Bush leaves the White House January 25, 2002 on his way to Andrews Air Force Base for a trip to Portland, Maine. Bush is carrying a book titled "Bias," by former CBS employee Bernard Goldberg, which is one person's view of a claimed liberal bias in the news media. REUTERS/Win McNamee

If the media is going to talk of someone not so readily known, a definer is helpful in shaping, pre-gauging what one's reaction should be to the character about to be introduced. If sympathy is absolutely not wanted the simple use of words like "conservative-" or "right-wing-" before someone's actual name usually suffices as a "ignore all that follows" indicator. A lack of definition is employed to confer the illusion of impartiality (but usually when "rabid-Commie-sympathizer-" would be more honest). Very good work, AnnaZ, and I really like this paragraph.
