Police today said no charges are expected in the shooting death of a 28-year-old man Sunday at a south Topeka hotel.
Lt. John Sidwell identified the victim today as Anthony D. Hamilton, of Topeka. He said officers discovered Hamilton dead with a single gunshot wound after responding to a shooting at the Regency Inn, 3802 S.W. Topeka Blvd.
Police said 73-year-old Bobby T. Davis, of Hominy, Okla., was staying in Room 636 when he heard a knock on the door. Davis, who carried a small handgun, then opened the door with the chain lock in place.
Police said Hamilton asked to use the telephone, then forced his way into the room. Hamilton then grabbed Davis by the throat and demanded money, authorities said.
As Hamilton attempted to hit the victim, Davis told police he fired one shot at Hamilton, who stumbled out of room and collapsed just outside the doorway.
Sidwell said detectives will forward reports to the district attorney's office, although no charges are expected to be filed.
On a darker side, if it happened to me, I'm sure Mayor Daley's Patrol would be waiting for me upon my return to make sure they confiscated all my guns ...... To Hell With the Constitution
Good shot.
A glimmer of hope radiates from my state capitol.
Anyway, he was robbed several times at gunpoint. He just gave them the money with a smile. He said he could "tell they didn't wanted to hurt him". But he kept a loaded 38 by the cash register. Well, one night someone came in to rob him and he said he could see that he was going to get shot. Just by looking at the mans eyes.
The robber had his gun on the counter pointed at our friend, but he didn't pay close attention when our friend opened up the big old cash register. The drawer was big enough to block the gun. "Pops" pulled his 38, the robber fired and the bullet was blocked by the register. "Pops" shot the man between the eyes.
The police showed up. And gave "Pops" new bullets.
It's sure not, that's about my father-in-law's age, but he doesn't keep a small handgun....he prefers a nice stainless Colt in .45 ACP for serious social purposes. It's the one gun, of about a dozen and a half, that never sees the inside of the safe, instead spending the night at his bedside. Actually he does keep several small handguns, but those are .22 Colt Woodmans, 4 different flavors of them in fact, but of course those are not for serious social purposes, but just for fun, unless you are a squirrel, rabbit or even a sweetcorn stealing raccoon, in which case they are plenty serious. (Actually for raccoons those crazy Danes have beeen known to apply a .357, but that was somewhat of a case of inadvertent overkill, since the brother-in-law in question was thinking the "prowler" might be of the two legged variety...messy in any event)
Now thats what I call a public servant.
Yep, his social security should be tripled and his pension tripled. That would be enough incentitive to eliminate a lot of 911 calls!
Thanks for posting this thread. Just another good ending proving that Dr John Lott's Book, "More Guns, Less Crime!" is so correct.
