Too bad this isn't happening in a muslim nation.
To: TLBSHOW
Just for perspective, we all thought that 50,000+ died from the WTC atrocity for days afterwards. Turned out the death toll was barely 2,000. Let's hope that these numbers are overstated as well.

Yes we can always hope.

You are one sick person. Go and take your medicine, maybe submit yourself for psyhcological counseling. What a depraved mind.

I wonder how deep that stuff is...?! You get sort of an impression by looking at the storefronts. 60-70 cm? Just on bbc world a little while ago that all of Goma is probably gone.

Muslims want to murder us, wishing death on the enemy is rational.

There's a huge and equally active caldera near Mammoth Mtn. in CA and it's overdue for blowing. Lookout downwind for about 3000 miles! It will be a true bummer. Either Kalipornia will die by earthquake or volcano so we need a government agency's scientific analysis to know for sure (yeah, right!).

Potential of a 100,000 dead is humorous? Wow, some major bad judgement there, pal. Got any WTC jokes, too? The lava was moving as fast as 40mph, pretty hard to outrun.

Umm, no. Mammoth last had an eruption (very small cinder-cone) 250 years ago, and the last Caldera-Forming superblast was 760,000 years ago. Nyriagongo erupts every few years.

No, it wasn't...botched media reports. Nyiragongo set the record for fastest lava flow in an eruption some years ago. This eruption, you could outrun the lava on foot. Media likes amazing statistics, they started mentioning the old lava speed as if it was from this eruption.

You are sick.

Oh, that's a lot of casualties. Even if the numbers are exaggerated, there'll still be a HUGE death toll. Living on the edge of the Great Rift is just that - living on the edge.
The Great Rift is apparently a place where tectonic plate movement is pulling apart Africa. The Red Sea is the part already opened. I'd have to check to see how much "creep" per year there is.

Of course, I imagine that it would be quite EASY to "go missing" in the Congo. I doubt they know how many people are there in the first place!

How so ? by wishing that ppl more deserving of death had been the victims, instead of ignorant innocent Africans.

Here's some tidbits on the Great Rift:
- The Rift Valley System of East Africa
- rifting of the continental lithosphere is the very first stage in the splitting apart of a continent to form a new ocean basin
- rift valley is basically a graben
- Rift Valley system of Africa:
- 3000 km/1900 mi long
- earths crust is being lifted and spread apart in a long, ridgelike swell
- major rivers and long, deep lakes occupy the valley floors
- multiple fault scarps give the valley sides a stepped appearance
- Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya, 2 great stratovolcanoes, have formed near the Rift Valley
