Good point. In fact, I wonder if this joint was raided because the DOJ wanted to make that sort of point to Judge Dein.See #90-according to the poster, she's only a magistrate. The article called her "judge", and it never ocurred to me that she wasn't the district judge. My bad :(
What are now called "MAGISTRATE JUDGE" used to be just plain old "MAGISTRATE." The title was changed by statute, but the basic function and place in the hierarchy didn't change.
But now they can be called "Judge XXXX," which they like.
