FReeper names explained
My curiousity | Now | Yours truly

Posted on 01/18/2002 5:03:35 PM PST by Come get it

Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.

I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

Okay, I know this thread was like three weeks ago, but I just read all 780+ posts and I might as well answer roll call...

Because I was Coast Guard, I have always used their motto Semper Paratus as a nick. (It means Always Ready.) People on various boards always just called me Semper. When I registered here, Semper Paratus was taken (by a good Coastie, I presume), so I used other variations instead. For a while I was MacSemper because I use MacOS. Before that there was another Semper-nick that I can't remember.

Then came September 11, and a new Semper-nick was born.

But you can just call me Semper.

ThreePanther refers to third battalion, and the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment has the panther as it's mascot.

EightyDuce is a reference to eighty-two, and the 82nd Airborne Division of course is a division some people have heard about over the years and needs no explination of what it is.

I hadn't explained that nick, but seeing how military related nicks are somewhat common, I figured I would explain mine.

THANKS,

Quix from quixotic--

Have long been accused of being a bird of very rare plumage--well over the line of different in a list of ways--and often enough accused of being quixotic. . . AND . . . when trying to think of a short name that would be a bit different, stand-out as easy to see from the mass of words, the letters Q and X came to mind.
