Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.
I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

Please tell me you used to watch The Goodies too.OK. "I used to watch The Goodies."

My husband was in Puerto Rico on business and I bought a 'pekapoo' puppy. I kept him in a cardboard box right beside my bed at night, but couldn't think what to name him.
My husband came home, saw "Potlatch Packaging Company" written on the box, so we called him Potlatch. I later found out that a Potlatch is an Indian festival!
I'm Calico Mary Kidd.

Lol ... that's fantastic! I'd post a picture of my first Mardi Gras costume if I had it to buttress the "Mad Anne Bonney" bit. Used to wear it to my reveling gigs in the off-season and the tourists would refer to me as "The Pirate Girl" I'm sure Venice -- like New Orleans -- has hosted its share of pirates. =)

Rudder is the family name. My parents named me Hard Right, but that caused so many problems growing up I just go now by my last name.

To: Tennessee_Bob
Sleep, huh? Why would you do such a thing? This whole thread has me thinking I need to change my handle. Can't think of anything really 'catchy', though. Hmm. I will have to invest some brainwaves in this...

Mine comes from a lifelong fascination with long steel-swords. Guns are fine, I shoot often myself, but a proper sword, a two-hander, is a weapon which makes the heart sing!
Also, It's what I dipped until quitting cold-turkey after 15 years. It is possible, and it is a source of pride for me.
