I'm sure homeschooling is the answer for a lot of parents who do not approve of what's going on in the public schools. What worries me is that many parents are not equipped to teach. My daughter's friend left her private school to be tutored by her mom. My daughter noticed a folder her mom prepared for her English assignments marked "litrature."

What worries me is that many parents are not equipped to teach. You shouldn't worry because it's really none of your concern. I know there are plenty of homeschoolers who teach their children the creation myth from Genesis as fact, but it's not my business.

So ?
According to outcome based education speeling spelling doesn't matter.

Once again I will say its none of your concern. You do not say what is best for other peoples children. This is the basic definition of Freedom. The Freedom to know and, freedom not to know something. The Freedom to do and, freedom not to do something. Your concern is only for yourself. The state of affairs of others is out of your range. These people are "Free" to do as they please.

My daughter noticed a folder her mom prepared for her English assignments marked "litrature."So where did the mom get her education? A government school, perhaps? Hmmmmm?
I have a friend who doesn't want to homeschool because she feels herself inadequate; her words are "because I'm lame."
To which I say, "And you're sending your kids to the same system that made you lame because.....?"

"Education" majors have the lowest average SAT scores on average( and SAT correlates pretty well with IQ) of any major.

Hey, my sons' parochial school regularly sends home letters and other official school documents with multiple misspellings. It irritates the hell out of me. (Just like those on FR.)
I was at the Y the other night for a kids basketball game and noticed two misspellings and a serious grammatical error on a professionally printed permanent sign.
We've become a nation of illiterate boobs.
