"No Gunshows on Dallas City Property, We Have Too Many Guns" - Laura Miller

I just heard this on WBAP in Dallas, at about 10:45 AM; Mark Davis was having a candidates' forum with mayoral candidate and city councilwoman Laura Miller and two others. A caller asked about gunshows on city property, and Laura was vehemently opposed to gunshows in the convention center or on any other city property.
She even went so far as to say she thought there are "two many guns." !!
After she left, Mark Davis remarked he thought that comment would ruin her in this election - and I hope so!

But look! No * <- splat. Sometimes its there, sometimes not. i know. it's there on the preview page, but not on the post. further, if you don't capitalize someones name,
it is capitalized on the preview, and then not on the post... but the ping still works.

Up until this ignorant statement I had begun to like her and her fearless style during council meetings.
In fact, the so called negative ads showing her getting in the mayor's face made me like her more.
I listen to Davis everyday though I dislike his arrogant manner. But on this hes correct. She stuck the fork in herself.

A couple of questions. I'm not in Dallas so I haven't paid a lot of attention, but isn't Dunning a Democrat who is the chosen successor to the Kirk machine. While no Bill Campbell, isn't the Kirk administration ethically and fiscally challenged, is not Dunning a proponent of major spending initiatives, such as the arena, signature bridges, etc?
Davis can be a goof, but kudos to him for calling her out on this issue. From what I can tell, her appeal was as an outsider opponent of the Kirk machine, but this could very well sink her.
So how come there was not a GOP candidate? Gay/minority demographics too great to overcome, or perhaps sitting out the short-term for a candidate in the next election?

Unfortunately, Miller's main opponent would probably make a worse mayor. I"m not too keen on her, but I do think that won't rake taxpayers over the coals for "special projects" (i.e., boondoggles) like the current mayor has done.
This election will kind of be like choosing between a beating and a whupping.

She even went so far as to say she thought there are "two many guns." !! I reckon Dallas has too many women working in city government.

Have you given Greg Knapp at 570am 4-7pm a try? I can't listen to Davis because his appeasing and overinflected speaking style drive me nuts(but I'm glad he's on our team), but Greg is pretty right on as a conservative. His humor productions are a bit lame, but otherwise he'd fit right in as a Freeper(in fact the alignment of his topics makes me wonder if FR is a part of his show prep).

I don't know Dunning's political affiliation. He is the Kirk heir apparent, backed by the Hunts, Roger Staubach, and the Dallas establishment.
I liked Miller too, for her open disdain for Ron Kirk.
But this absolutely stupid statement on her part about gun shows (Dunning equivocated, saying he "supports the current policy in place") will hurt her in an all-important run-off.
The funny thing was hearing Domingo Garcia, Democrat, Gore-voter, and a man who has absolutely no chance at being elected mayor, talk about his concealed-carry license.
As far as spending goes, EVERY candidate supports major spending initiatives.
I'm just glad I don't live in Dallas.

But really, is Dallas that much different from any other major city in terms of politics?

I occasionally listen to Michael Savage on KLIF, but have never heard Knapp.
KLIF is such a basket case as far as talk radio stations go, and has been for years, since David Gold left.
I liked Tom Kamb, just because he was so over-the-top, but I think he was seriously mentally ill.

Just one more reason to thank God that I now live in Tarrant County. Ditto. Before moving to Florida, I left Irving for Grapevine and never looked back.

That s**t only plays well in Austin! Anywhere else in Texas it's a no-go! She's history!!

Yeah, I recently returned to DFW after a many year absence, and was very disappointed how the radio had gone downhill, tons of Viagra type adds at any time of the day on KLIF, the Ticket, etc. Hence the surprise when Greg Knapp came on. I highly recommend giving him a try, he's better than Hannity and right up Freeper alley, a true conservative who believes in common sense.

Lord help Dallas if her campaign doesn't go down in flames! Such statements ought to be political suicide in Dallas, or has Dallas changed that much? Say it isn't so!
Yep, no doubt those rows upon rows of rusty Winchesters in calibers .25-20 and .38-40 and .40-82 are slipping out of Market Hall via the "gun show loophole" and are supplying the terrorist networks, gang-bangers, drug dealers, etc. There oughta be a law agin it. [/sarcasm]

How did you do the funky caps! Not shown in my preview.

"Davis is an opinionated talk show host with the highest rating, in his time slot, of anybody in the history of talk radio in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex." Wow! They should build a monument for him.
Also, thank you for setting aside some bandwidth to check my spelling. It was worth every byte.
Davis also thinks that John Rocker deserved everything he got for speaking out on his own time in a Magazine not affiliated with MLB.
It was after his support of Klinton, Kastro, and Reno regarding Elian Gonzales that had me permanently remove him from my dial. Davis is a member of the fascist right.

" I have talked to him a couple of times and anytime you get to a hot point he interrupts and talks over you so your point is missed or minimized." You are correct. Limbaugh is often accused by liberals of the very thing that Mark Davis is guilty of. He is arrogant and very rude to callers. Don't expect him to go national, ever.
