Exactly. They do not care how many problems their behavior cause the rest of us. Their primary interest is in gaining power. The President is a good and decent man, a natural leader, he has treated the liberals in Congress fairly and with respect. It is driving them crazy... it's the killing them with kindness approach played out on a world-wide stage. LOL If they weren't so determind to wreck the economy it would be more than a little funny to watch.

" I spent most of my childhood in Beaufort, S.C and Fla."

My first duty station was MCAS Beaufort, SC. I loved it there. There is so much history in that part of the world...Ft. Sumpter near by, Savannah GA, and Charleston...

When I was stationed there, living in the Bachelor Officers Quarters, I ended up with my first kitty family.... yep. 4 little kittens with their eyes closed still. Some garbage man had set the dempsey dumpster on the mama. So I ended up with 2 little black kittens that I called Scotch and Soda, one black kitty with white paws called Buttons, and a little calico called Gretchen. One kitty died of SIDs ( in my opinion) found a home for the other black kitty and kept Buttons and Gretchen. Buttons gave the paw of approval to any dates I had. If he slugged the guy with with his paw, it was a one dat..cat was never wrong.... Gretchen was a sweet little quiet thing. I had to teach them how to climb trees, and they loved the shower...Turn the water on and they were in the shower faster than I was! Sad that I had to find homes for them when I went overseas as my parents would not take care of them for me until I got back...:(

Well, the kitties went to a home out on near Hilton Head. One day I got a letter from one of my friends still in the Q. Seems Buttons came all the way back and was found crying outside the door to my quarters.

These kitties were huge when fully grown..They were feral..I called them my 'swamp kitties ' as the Q was not far from a swamp. Oh, and these kitties were trainned to go on a leash!

Thanks Val .. that was pretty much my thinking .. I have been hearing all kinds of stories so I'm not sure as to what exactly is going on

And I don't mean to sound mean .. my heart goes out to the families of the people in the 9/11 attack .. but paying these families and supporting them other then SS is going down the wrong road .. IMO

I could be wrong .. but we don't even do this for the widow's of our serviceman and women that are killed in the line of duty ..

The photo and statue are replays of the soldiers planting the flag at Iwo Jima. This generation of Americans is so desperate for heroes to acknowledge en masse, but so enamoured with fame and symbolism (athletics), that we forget to notice and appreciate smaller scale, but just as true, heroism being played out all around us every day. The WTC Sept 11 death toll is under 3,000. How many thousands of Americans have died since then? How many have been rescued from danger by others? How many were comforted and cared for?

When we attach helpfulness and tragedy only to huge events that draw national attention, we forget that opportunities to BE heroes, not merely worship them, exist in our own lives, our own towns, our own abilities and needs.

The Iwo Jima photo that was used for that memorial staute was posed, not spontaneous. The photojournalist saw the scene, but his camera wasn't ready, so he had the men re-do it so he could capture it when ready - but the moment captured isn't the original.

Yes, apparently it is on that proposal. However, they are still trying to find an appropriate memorial so look for more nonsense The simple act displayed in that photograph spoke volumes to the world about the heartbeat of this country. It is an exercise in PC foolishness to keep searching for the proper way to commorate and memorialize all those lost.

"I'll take fifty anyday .. that's short sleeve weather .. lol"

heeheehee. My sister and I were in Boston in June. It was 60*. Some locals were walking around in short sleeves and shorts. We had on sweaters and still had to stand in the sunshine just to stay warm. It was around 90* down here that week. LOL.

Hi, Valerie! I'd been skimming the thread, lots of topics here. Living in California, we see firsthand what happens when illegal immigrants flood in. They do not assimilate, and expect to be accommodated. And we DO accommodate them: bilingual education, free medical care, in-state tuition at the Cal. universities, and soon, drivers licenses. Such a deal...

Joe Rosenthal - Pulitzer Prize Picture -- Iwo Jima Flag Raising I was coming up toward the brow of the hill and I was possibly 200 feet away. I stopped because emerging, and as I came closer, I could see this small flag, waving on a very long pole. And it gave me a jolt then, and I get it now ñ that was our flag. And I went up, not knowing what kind of a picture I would get, certainly wouldnít be of a flag going up, because it was already up. And I walked around. As I, as I came closer, closer to the pole, I saw kneeled on the ground, there were, I believe, three Marines fooling around a pole that was on the ground and one of them had tucked under his arm, in that usual triangular fashion which you fold the American flag . And I said, ìWhatís doing, fellas?î And they said to me something like, ìWeíre preparing to raise this bigger flag. The colonel down below wants a bigger flag so it can be seen by the troops all over the island,î the rest of the troops, for morale sake, or for and he said also ìHe wants to make damn sure he got that first flag back.î From the way they, they said it to me, I understood that it would be a simultaneous exchange. And so, one would come down as the other went up. And then I started thinking about the possible picture itself. And I thought, itís chancy. Most of this kind of stuff is like shooting a football play, you know, things can change so quickly in action. The position might be awkward or I might miss it entirely. And then I estimated where they would be, where the flag would be, how tall is this thing, how much far back I need to get in order to get them in. Bill Genaust, the Marine photographer with the movie camera, came across in front and went just to my right and said, ìIím not in your way, am I, Joe?î And I turned and I said, ìNo, thatís fine. Hey, there it goes, Bill.î They had just lifted the pole off the ground and it was on its way up. I swung my Graphic around close up to my face and held it watching through the finder to see when I could estimate whatís the peak of the picture. And I thought it should look good. And I had no, I wasnít referring to, even in my own mind, first, the importance of first flag, second flag. I wanted a flag going up on Iwo, and I wanted it badly. And I could only hope that it turned out the way that I looked at it through the finder. close window

You know .. I keep hearing that .. but the history channel did a thing on it ... in it they said that is was caught on tape but the guy didn't realize that the camera was rolling as he picked it up and then had the guys redo it ..

As for 9/11 .. to me a Hero is a person who puts some elses life before thier own ..

So this is why .. to me these Fireman and Policemen are Hero's .. as for the other people that died .. they are victums of these terrible attacks ..

Ok .. did that make any sense .. if not .. then just ignore me ..lol

I don't know anything about that particular aircraft. I was assuming that they had ejection seats.

Just heard the same thing but there are no details other than the jets are from Davis Monthon AFB.

I just heard the story regarding the Marines memorial service at Mirmar. Shep referred to Marines as soldiers. Lord God I am so tired of that...We are Marines and we never properly refer to our enlisted as troopers or soldiers. We always refer to our junior personnel and personnel on the whole as Marines! So I had to email that little detail to them at FOX.. Wonder if they will ever get it right? Well, Mo, I had a rant for both os us..
