Freepers, I want to talk to you all about the staute. I agree with you all that to depict the staute with mullti-racial characters is wrong and politically correct. I, however, have something to tell you all that you will not like.

IT REALLY DOES NOT MATTER IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS. THE BIGGEST JOKE ABOUT THIS WHOLE P.C. THING IS THAT WE END UP FIGHTING OVER THE MOST TRIVIAL BS, TRULY THE MOST UNIMPORTANT FACTS AND ISSUES THAT WE CAN FIND. THE GUY WHO TOOK THE TROPHY PICTURE SHOULD COPYWRITE IT, AND REFUSE TO ALLOW IT TO BECOME A STATUE. THE STATUE SHOULD HAVE PEOPLE WITH FEATURELESS FACES, BECAUSE THE STATUE/PICTURE IS ABOUT "THREE AMERICAN MEN RAISING THE FLAG" NOT ABOUT "THREE WHITE AMERICANS RAISING THE FLAG". WHO REALLY GIVES A SHEET ABOUT SUCH "STUPID" DETAILS.
To: keep U.S. Sovereign
Yes, however, I refuse too use the past to condemn them. There is not a freeper in here that makes me curse them. I refuse to use the past on any body or any group. If that company is private, most of the freepers are wrong. The company was the one that promoted the diversity. Like I said most companies are promoting diversity because they can make money and get praise.
To: AMMON-CENTRIST
In the interest of diversity, perhaps we could replace the American flag with one of those rainbow things, eh? :-}

You all have 48 years left for being the dominant group.
If this is how we are treated when we are "dominant", it does not take much imagination to figure out what is in store for us when we are no longer "dominant".
BTW, I'm still looking for some of this "white priviledge" I am supposed to be a beneficiary of. It seems to me either we "racists" have gotten gyped, or maybe this talk of "racism" and "white dominance" was nothing but a crock of sh!t to begin with.
To: AMMON-CENTRIST
If someone thinks that the opposition to this statue is due to racism, then the problem is theirs and they need to get the chip off their shoulder. This has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with depicting an historical event accurately. Sheesh.
To: AMMON-CENTRIST
then blacks will revoltHow do you know this? Revolt in what way? I'm black, and I say the statue should reflect what really happened. What am I, chopped liver?

WHO REALLY GIVES A SHEET ABOUT SUCH "STUPID" DETAILS. You misjudge the people on this side of the controversy. We don't think of historical accuracy as a stupid detail.
It wasn't politically correct that one of the flag raisers in the famous Iwo Jima photo was an Indian. But he was represented as who he really was. So even though he died an alcoholic, he could always be proud of what he did and that HE will be memorialized in history, not some PC fantasy person.
To: AMMON-CENTRIST
You are wrong! Your logic is wrong! Your rationale is wrong! Maybe we should change the Iwo Jima statue, huh?

Many blacks will. You, I, and others won't rebel. Too many blacks have a left wing rebel streak in them. You know that.

Well, according to the dominant liberal paradigm, you shouldn't exist, so no, you are not chopped liver - you're nothing. The libs would like to "disappear" you just like they "disappeared" the identities of those whose images were captured in the photo.

The company was the one that promoted the diversity. Like I said most companies are promoting diversity because they can make money and get praise.Let me explain the position of all, if I can get through to you.
The point of contention is not diversity or race. It is the fact that a actual picture of history is being misrepresented. To erect the statue as planned would be a lie, regarding a historical event.
Change the design to represent a general depiction of the event without reference to the picture and we have no problem. You can diversify away without offending anyone.
It is the blatent re-write of a historical event captured by a photo that is the problem. This has absolutely nothing to do with racist views of any kind.
To: AMMON-CENTRIST
To change the depiction to a multi-racial depiction is wrong and racist. But I think you all should let this go. I will strongly advise not to do anything. Why? Because you all will be looked upon as racist if you seek either to change or remove the statue."Racist" used to mean "lies about the inferiority (usually in terms of morality, competency, or intelligence) of ethnic or religious minorities." Nowadays, you can say something 100% True and still be labeled a racist. Well, go ahead, call me a racist, I don't care.
Maybe we should abandon the tax cut, because poor Democrats will call us greedy capitalist oppressors! Maybe we shouldn't have invaded Afghanistan, because Muslims around the world were calling us "crusaders." Or maybe what you're saying is worthless.

Relax amigo, just joshing with ya. How about we keep the likenesses of the original three men and then add some diversity in the background representing all who suffered and died because they were Americans?
To: AMMON-CENTRIST
Many of your descendants in the future will not look Anglo or European any way.And the firemen in the statue don't even "look white," they'll be BRONZE-COLORED.

Interesting. Perhaps you should get your own web forum, if you want the luxury of censoring at will people who disagree with you. It will be more expensive than posting to FR, but will doubtless be more gratifying to your ego.
