***Media Getting Set Up To Be Burned Big Time By Enron Story***
Stardate: 0201.13

Posted on 01/13/2002 4:38:46 AM PST by The Wizard

A Media, TV Press, et al that spent all it's time defending the Clinton lies, and giving a lot of space and time to the Clinton lacky's, has just about let it's glee at the potential to attack an honest President, and help make the democrats look less crooked by implying the old stand by:"they all do it" walk themselves into a fatal trap.

Being led by the notorious Waxman, defender of any corrrupt democrat, the criminal liberal media is allowing itself to be used to make a case that isn't there.

They fell so flat in the beginning, because the Bush Administration WASN'T corrupt like the last bunch of bought and paid for crooks, that they have already started to retreat into the claims that BECAUSE the Bush Administration DIDN'T do anything wrong there is a problem

The media whores are about to spend their most important chip, credibility, to support the liars and cheats in congress and the democrat party, clinton's old guard, to help sell a story that doesn't exist, putting them even more visibly in bed with the American terrorists that have attacked the country since the election of Smilin' Bill "Capone"

Some of the smarter people, like Wolf Blitzer have already seen how they have been set up and are starting to retreat.....

Whoraldo even got out of the country, (you think he just decided to leave???)

We'll soon see who are real reporters and who are on the payroll, won't we....

Unfortunately, I must agree...after their shameful actions even lying about Florida going for Gore, where they were clearly caught in bed with the crooks, this one is going to get some investiged and exposed.....

The media will soon discover that Enron has the same curse as the S&L fiasco and the true financial crimes of Whitewater, it's incredibly boring.

What kept Whitewater going was not the money, it was the coverup. The scrutiny of Whitewater in Little Rock turned up a lot of the other clinton sleeze.

Ever since the Times tried to controll the news in the trial of Jim Garrison, they have used a formula of giving everyone on their payroll the same story, making it look like everyone across the media was in agreement with the current lie....

Since Drudge and the internet, it has become impossible to "sell" the same story as there are just too many sources of information, and truth can get out on it's own.....Thank God....

Do you think that Smilin' Bill "Capone" wouldn't have gotten his buddy elected if there hadn't been all those sources to fight the continous lie machine that supports all the news media except Fox and a couple of papers?

This "scandal" will die a quick death for three reasons.

1. Both sides took lots-o-cash from Enron. Too much real digging would let the crazy Aunt out of the basement for a lot of Senators and Congress folk.
2. Clinton. Their fingers are still healing from paper cuts they suffered counting the cash they took. Lay could fry Clinton in a nano-second for the "favors" Enron got and Bill/Hillary knows it. They are probably more pissed about the media firestorm than we are. A couple of McAuliffe phone calls will squelch this pretty quickly.
3. Polls. Once the rabid medialites figure out that this assault has backfired, and would ultimately hurt their poster boy, they will conveniently switch gears to some other "breaking" story.

I imagine there are a lot of squirming Congressmen huddled together right now trying to pee on a forest fire. Mallox is the soup du jour for them. This isn't the 70's when the big three could conspiratorially dictate what was the important news. 24 hour Cable and the internet have relegated those outfits to has-beens; only they haven't figured it out yet.

Lay, while apparently greedy and self-serving, is not a dummy....and he understands Washington. He spread the bucks around efficiently on both sides. He has enough markers out to thump a house of cards. He knows it, they know it and somebody will soon be whispering this reality to the press. All indications are that the Bush folks laughed in Lay's face when he came calling. Clinton couldn't get his pants up fast enough to assist Lay when he knocked. This Bush scandal will resemble a Roman candle; exciting anticipation, a little smoke, pretty colors, a loud boom and then ....nothing. Enron and Lay will be in the news for months, but when the press realizes their gaffe, they will leave Congressmen, and (gnashing of teeth) Bush out of this. Crickets....

Two days ago I would have completely agreed with you, and still do to an extent: the Dems/Media don't know which story they want to tell---that Bush "did something inappropriate" (which was the original spin) or the Waxman spin that Bush "did nothing." The latter, of course, is true, but the problem is the media already cut the legs out from under any populist appeal that might have had (you know---the "poor employees who lost their pensions" and "the poor helpless stockholders").

HOWEVER, there is a REAL DANGER here, and that is the Return of the McCainiacs. That's right, "campaign finance reform" is already being touted again by Capt. Queeg, and if the media latches onto this it diminishes concerns that "the Dems did it too." So far, the media boobs don't appear to have glommed onto this approach, but it's only a matter of time. That is why it was important for Bush to move fast and decisively to fix the problems at the pension/stock ends of this. But even then it may not be enough.

Agreed. Personally, I can't see what all the buzz is about. It appears to me that some insider trading took place at the upper levels and some employees got screwed at the lower levels. Business as usual--what's new here?

I'm not so sure. Although you make an excellent point and draw a quite logical conclusion, McCain has one little-bitty problem:

There's no "there" there.

It's already well-known that there was no quid pro quo here; the White House didn't jump to Enron's salvation even after repeated (around 8 or so) phone calls from Mr. Lay. They refused to dance.

No, McCain will (once again) fall flat on his face if he tries to make hay out of this one..................

Nothing personal about it. The sentence is poorly written. Accept it as constructive criticism.
