FReepers I Need to Pic Your Brains - Help!
me
Posted on 01/11/2002 9:35:23 AM PST by GrandmaC
I know I have not been on for awhile. Many of you have written to me and asked what is going on. After Jarbidge in July 2000 I moved up to Idaho to be closer to my daughter. As many of you know I am disabled. Since I moved here I have been having a major nightmare with doctors. Without boring you with details, I am ready to quit the whole lot of them. But I have a ball and chain around my neck, social security disability, and long term disability from my employer. I am not looking for sympathy or instant cures with herbal medicine, but I am a good conservative and I want to remove this ball and chain! I also am not looking for charity or people to feel sorry for me!
This is where I am asking for help. I need a way or means to support myself from which I can do on my computer from home. It needs to be something that does not require a lot of reading. I have my computer set up at my bedside. Then I can quit the doctor thing, and just go once a year or so to my doctor in Reno for my meds.
This is a brief synopsis of my working history.
- Secretary for 3 years
- CNA-for 1 year while in school
- RN &/or Charge Nurse for 19 years (Primarily Pediatrics, but also Adults and L&D)
- Started & Ran a Maternity Home for Pregnant minors while a nurse
have gotten 501C3 status for the maternity home and another organization - Authored Mattys Heart a Childs and Parents Guide to Open Heart Surgery (I donated these books to Kids with Heart many years ago and do not receive anything for them.)
I have been disabled since 1996 with Myasthenia Gravis and Adult Onset Stills Disease.
I must also say I am a very conservative Christian so anything I do has to be in line with my Christian Values and Love of my Lord.
I need approximately $1500 a month to support myself: medications, utilities, house payment/rent etc (does not include medical insurance which I will loose my Medicare). That is the trade off. But I do not know what else to do. I need a business that can generate that kind of money and is not physically taxing. Oh yeah, I am 54 years old. Been disabled since I was 48. Was in the middle of starting the Medical Storybook business when I became ill and lost it all, infact still paying off some of it. I believe in honoring my debts, so I did not file for bankruptcy.
Well it seems like an impossible task to me How about you guys, any ideas to help me get off the taxpayers dime.

With your medical background, maybe you could offer medical transcription or billing/insurance filing services to local physicians? I am unsure how much reading these would require.

You have already written two books. Maybe you could write one more and keep the copyright, and the royalties.
Best of luck.

Thank you, I am not sure either. I have to start my own company because my doctor would not want to release me to work. I just went and talked to her about it here. Doctors have alot more power than we know.

actually I have retained the copyright. I did not sign that over to Kids with Heart. Just gave them the book. I am starting some poetry now, but who knows if it will ever sell or not. I have tried to develop characters, but can't even get anyone to proof it for me. So if I can't get my family who loves me to read it, doesn't sound very promising for a steady income I would think.
For a medical book it requires a lot of research reading. But I am working on the poetry, but I can't count on that at this time for steady income.

Thank you so much, I do know this is in the Lords Control and Plan. This idea to post this here today poped up, so I didn't want to leave any stone unturned while I figure out just what His Plan is for my life. Thank you again

Hi,
It's so nice to hear from you.
Have you considered dictating your book ideas to a partner who does the scribe work?
Best,
MA

Here's a Freeper needing help. Not asking for prayer, but needs God's blessing. Thanks!

Judging from your passion about property rights issues I would think that you could assist lobbying efforts via computer and telephone. Your ability to write clearly would also be an asset in such an endeavour.
Perhaps a FReeper in such an organization might be able to get you a $20K/yr job helping them out. If you don't get any nibbles, a quick search on Google will turn up dozens of such organizations. Put together a resume and go after them with the same zeal that you went after the greenies at Jarbridge.

You need a business that will throw off $18,000/year in profits from the ground up, require little or no start-up capital, is capable of being run by a severely disabled person with limited mobility, and one that doesn't break too many laws.
After we eliminate selling drugs and pyramid schemes, there ain't much left. I think the book idea is best.

Good to hear from you, GrandmaC; know that you are loved and respected for you actions with Jarbidge and Klamath. Wish I could offer more than prayers, but maybe someone on my ping list can help. Cheers.

The book would be good, and to find someone willing to help with it would be even greater, just not sure the talent is there. Of course all they can say is NO! I should probably go back to trying it.

They sure do! It isn't much but it would be sufficient to your needs. The bigger organiztions have fairly significant budgets. Call Malcolm Wallop in Wyoming and his Frontier organization. Wallop knows how to raise money and is one of the nicest guys you'll ever talk to. Tell him about your efforts in Jarbridge and your interest in the subject. You're preactically a poster girl for grassroots activism. Why your name alone was enough to make me open the post.

Thank you, I wondered if everyone had forgotten me. Nice to know I still have friends here.
Well expecting a call from MDA, so I guess I'd better get off the phone line. Will check back in a little bit. Please keep the ideas flowing and thank you all.

I wish you lived closer -- I'd volunteer to help you myself. It would actually fit in rather well with some 'editor' ambitions I've been having lately.
