I am in AGREEMENT with your assessment, but the action your looking for is difficult to accomplish with the current make of the Senate and Mr. Daschle's OBSTRUCTIONIST actions.. We need to concentrate on Getting back control of the Senate, than I am sure you will see RESULTS much quicker, and with FAR less "compromise" than is currently necessary with Mr. Daschle at the "helm" of the Senate..

Threads like this will attract the druggies who want their pot and smoke it, too.

Think that it will attract people who are afraid of their government's alarming increase in power over it's citizens?

The sole purpose of the fed is "to secure these rights". The military is a tool used toward that end. The tool cannot be more important than the object it was created for.

AMEN !! Exactly!! Right on Target!! etc...

and Thank you !!

but the action your looking for is difficult to accomplish

If Ashcroft can't do something because it is "difficult", then he should find himself a new line of work that only requires him to accomplish easy tasks.

No, but maybe some who use that tactic as an excuse to justify their desire to pollute America with garabge.

The current attorney general, John Ashcroft, has made no attempt to examine Ms. Reno's bizarre behavior or update the public about the Marc Rich investigation or anything else. Mr. Ashcroft specializes in looking dour and stonewalling. While Congress is attempting to get documents about President Clinton's dubious foreign fundraising and FBI abuses in Boston, Ashcroft is refusing to cooperate at all.

Yet without fanfare, the attorney general simply quashed the FOIA.

Ignore your rights, and they will go away -- for all of us, immigrants and citizens alike. We must protect our freedom, not sacrifice it through fear. And it is precisely during a time of national emergency when abiding by our valued American principles is most critical. If we believe in the principles symbolized by our flag, "liberty and justice for all," then Attorney General John Ashcroft is wrong in suggesting that some people do not deserve due process of the law. Just as we have zero tolerance for terrorism, we must have zero tolerance for violations of civil and human rights for all residents of the United States.

So if I say that I am afraid of my government's alarming increase of power, you would say that I desire to pollute America with garbage? That is my tactic?

I hope people pay attention and try to steer the government away from anything that takes our freedom. By communists, by facists, by monoarchists, by democracy, or by any other thugs, foreign or domestic.

David, I admire your passion for conservative causes and your demonstrated loyalty and service to myself as a citizen of this nation. However, as a libertarian, I believe the allegedly good intentions of Ashcroft are carrying the Republic to hell. There is not one additional law that needs to be on the books to keep this country as safe as it can be made from terrorist attack. In fact, I can probably come up with 10 linear feet of statutes, regulations, and EO's that should be repealed, and at least four Cabinet-level departments which should be abolished, in order to accomplish this goal.
