Sorry you didn't appreciate my joke. I read so much skepticism about other founders and heroes on FR. Jefferson, who advocated revolution every generation or so and was not troubled by the horrible revolutionary violence in France surely deserves as much skepticism as other great figures of his era and later American history.

While Jefferson would be appalled by the tax rates we have to pay, he'd recognize that such things do happen in societies that don't have a frontier to absorb the poor and give people an opportunity to escape to self-sufficiency and freedom. Jefferson was also heavily indebted in his last years. The idea of giving away 50 or 70 percent of one's income before one even sees it would not have been new to him.

You seem to miss the entire point and have no concept of what America was founded on and how it has been corrupted. I paid over $30,000 to the federal government last year. I got laid off. If I'm lucky I may make a total of $25,000 this year. If I don't pay $10,000 of that meager amount to the federal government for more taxes they say I owe from last year I just may go to jail. Add in the taxes they plan to take from me this year.

I'll be damned if I let my children go hungry to satisfy the like of you or this "American" government. BTW, less than $4,000 of the $40,000 I supposedly owe for last year will actually be used to benefit "the poor". Most of the rest is eaten up by the beaurocracy with maybe $6,000 going to the purposes our government should be responsible for.
