[history]
Sacramento -- Gov. Gray Davis wants to give state and local police broad new powers to obtain wiretaps and monitor e-mail, a proposal likely to inflame civil libertarians and set up a showdown with members of his own party in the Legislature.

Davis and lawmakers face a $12.2 billion budget shortfall Can you say "deflection?". Davis would much rather take the heat on the wire-tap laws than over his fiscal irresponsibilities. Wait until they see the shortfall from 2002! Ouch, they (we) are going to hurt badly. Bounce 'em out.

It sure is good to see Greyout Davis asking for even more power and authority, being as he has handled the power and authority he already has so very ably. It sure was impressive how he took a multi billion dollar surplus and turned it into a multi billion dollar deficit in just a few months! What leadership!< / sarcasm >
Just list this as another in a long list of reasons why I am so very, very grateful that I was able to escape from that state!

Hey, c'mon give the guy a break, he's got an election coming and Davis has to do a little opposition research.

Yeah, but it's fine when Ashcroft does it.

If Davis spent more time trying to figure out how the taxpayer is going to pay for all those HUGE electrical contracts he signed and less time on everything else we would all be better off...BILL SIMON FOR GOVERNOR!

Davis's definition of "terrorist" is probably anyone who opposes his California Power Authority.

he took a multi billion dollar surplus and turned it into a multi billion dollar deficit Don't be so kind to him. That son of a bitch lost $18 billion dollars in one year! From a $4B surplus to a $14B deficit! We're in the hole for 20% of the state budget! He and the rest of the rats need to go, pronto! There is no way to grow ourselves out of this mess, it will take more than a decade just to grow through inflation, assuming that the state budget doesn't grow any further. The rats are going to tax us to death (already they have raised sales taxes .25%, want to raise car registration taxes as well, and hope that the minimum wage hike will help fill up the coffers) and as we all know, tax increases is only going to cause diminishing returns that will leave fewer dollars left to invest in the economy.

Don't forget...tonight is Gray-out's State of the State address. Bring plenty of barf bags if you intend to watch/listen.

Senate President Pro Tem John Burton, D-San Francisco, said he didn't see any need for the state to take action when the federal government already had done so. "It's a waste of state resources," he said. "People are trying to make political statements instead of dealing with the problems of safety."
Burton told the truth??? Stop the presses!

I'll bet he will be complaining about civil liberties next week.
I bet he'll do it TONIGHT in the State of the State speech. All in the name of "racial profiling" and how we should all be "tolerant."

Interesting. Maybe it's easier for him to criticize the Bush administration when something goes wrong than when Davis' administration does it. It's all about the blame game.
