A long-standing Denver area motorcycle shop, Fay Myers Motorcycle World, went up in flames on Wednesday, 2 January 2002, around 8:00 am. The building, with millions in dollars of motorcycles and other recreational vehicles, was a total loss. Many cycle enthusiasts were dismayed and totally bummed, dude at the loss. The cause of the fire is not known, and arson is not a suspected cause as of this report.
What is more saddening is that under the newly enacted anti-terrorism bill, the PATRIOTS Act, any fire causing more than $1 million in damages requires the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the BATF, to investigate. Local authorities must step aside to this federal agency.
It seems that with our newly found paranoia of terrorism, this great country is handing over local government responsibilities and duties to an ever-encroaching federal government. Perhaps our next step as a country of liberty and freedom is to ensure no eight-year-old candy bar five-finger discounter gets away without a full FBI investigation.
Perhaps this PATRIOTS Act isnt so patriotic?
Thanks for the post. I wasn't aware of this federal intrusion.
The BATF has been involved for a lot of years. I worked as a secretary for a law firm that did arson and fraud work in the early 80's and BATF was in on a lot of the fires, as was the FBI. Whether they were called in or came in of their own accord based on certain criteria, I don't have a clue.
Hitlery + Patriot Act = Fourth Reich
It really is that simple.

I agree.
